Unconsciously inventing problems for ourselves?

I think the term "rebirth" is consistent with my beliefs (like the Roy game) though the NPCs usually wouldn't reincarnate. By "soul" I mean a consciousness that can exist if your body is dead and can be reincarnated or go to Heaven, etc. I don't really use the term but thought it might be relevant to Nirvana.
Here is a link to the 31 planes of existence within the six realms of Buddhism: you will see nirvana/nibbana is not among them.

@crossfire:
I think you hadn't said about whether inventing problems for yourself is part of any other kind of religion or spirituality... it's odd that what I see as a great truth hasn't been thought of before in spritual/religious traditions... (though usually they talk about an end to problems in Heaven)

Though it is a way of ensuring that First Noble Truth: Life is Dukkha can't be avoided...
What do you think?

BTW those planes of existence are somewhat compatible with my simulation beliefs...
The Heavens are like Alan Watts' dream thought experiment (which could involve simulations) (where you can have unlimited wishes granted - not sure if that is in the 31 planes of existence)
I wish a hell realm didn't exist - "These are realms of unimaginable suffering and anguish" - though that could easily be implemented with simulations and psychopaths would want to torment people there...

Whatever psychological hangups you have lurking in your unconscious mind will either surface unconsciously in problems you create for yourself or you can actively look inward and observe these thoughts arise and pass away, then actively work towards a solution to resolve these psychological hang-ups. (Hint: it is more painful if you don't listen to your unconscious mindstream than if you do listen.) Left-hand path looks inward and seeks to draw these psychological hang-ups into consciousness, so yes, creating "problems" for yourself is a spiritual practice in that respect.

Second Noble Truth: the truth of the cause of dukkha: Dukkha is caused by Tanha (We suffer like junkies because of our fiery addictive cravings.)
Third Noble Truth: The truth of the end of dukkha: Dukkha ends when we get over our addictions
Fourth Noble Truth: The truth of the eightfold path that can lead to the ending of dukkha.

So applying this to your paradigm: yes, we are junkies--addicted to this matrix game, and we engage in junkie-like behavior in connection to our addiction to this experience.

You can have unlimited wishes granted in lucid dreams. ;)

In the Buddhist paradigm, the hell realms are impermanent.

People probably would have numerous handups and probably wouldn't be able to resolve them all. Maybe manic episodes create hangups even if none originally existed?

I think it is impossible to permanently end dukkha through our own efforts - but in the Roy game the dukkha in your life ends when you die (and you wake up in the "real world"). I suspect there is some reward or punishment in the "afterlife" - in the video it talks about the "Roy score". I think dukkha can end temporarily like in the book I referred to in the OP. I think Ken Keyes' ideas are based on Eastern ideas. You might be interested in this:

In video games it is easy for miraculous things to happen - it is another matter in a regular physical world. BTW Alan Watts' dream thought experiment (involving wishes) is apparently based on Hinduism:
In the Buddhist paradigm, the hell realms are impermanent.
That's good. In Christianity the church tradition is for it to be eternal - infinitely longer than a googolplex years...
