UP Shia board to gift silver arrows for Lord Ram’s statue in Ayodhya

After welcoming Yogi Adityanath government’s move to build a 100-meter high statue of Lord Ram on the banks of Saryu river in Ayodhya, the Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board has said it would gift 10 silver arrows for his quiver as a mark of respect.

“UP government’s decision to erect a statue of Lord Ram is commendable. In keeping with the Ganga-Jamuni tehezeeb of Awadh, these silver arrows would be just a token of admiration and esteem in which Shias hold Lord Ram,” he said.

“The Nawabs of this region always respected the temples in Ayodhya. Even the land for Hanuman Garhi in central Ayodhya was donated by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah in 1739, while the funds to construct the Hanuman Garhi temple were provided by Nawab Asif-ud-Daullah, between 1775 and 1793,” Rizvi pointed out."

Well... their Saudi friends won't be happy... But why the need to build something so big? What about putting that money towards restoring temples (and mosques, I suppose) that have fallen into disrepair? Fund meal programs to be offered through the temples (and mosques... I suppose...) and other social things? Why a statue? What is this statue going to do?

Why statues, I too wonder? Why did the Romans build amphitheaters? But they influence the voters and BJP hopes to do the rest on that strength. You see, winning elections also is important, otherwise nothing that a party wants to do gets done.

A few Muslims women have been declared heretics because they held Lord Rama's Arti. They termed Rama as 'Imam-e-Hind'.

Public works are good. It's just... why a massive statue? That's why I was suggesting alternatives. I hope those women are okay.

They are trying and things are bound to be better. Uttarkhand and Uttar Pradesh have BJP governments and Bihar has a JDU/BJP government. The Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal also chip in wherever required. Effluent treatment plants are being installed. But it is a huge task and will take much time. Till now, nobody cared about what we threw in the rivers. We had a useless minister, Uma Bharati. So, Modi removed her.

Where can one find data for pollution level trends in Ganga and other major rivers? Do you know?
