But I'm not sure what there is to debate? I didn't notice enough on the methodology to question it, and the limited selection of countries involved just seems to make it "Europe is more knowledgeable than the US".

I don't see how that contributes to the discussion.
A couple posters have pointed to our election as proof of our ignorance
(2 largely unacceptable candidates being the only likely winners).
Instead, the result can be seen as knowing enuf to avoid rock bottom,
which I illustrated with a picture of it.

The less ignorant countries on the map in the OP would disagree with you. They pretty much all came out in clear support of Clinton over Trump.

I can cite Britain, Germany, France, etc if you like.
