I know this well. My father is a hoarder who never wants to get rid of anything, and our house is getting more and more cluttered with junk. When I eventually move out, I'm only keeping what I need. It also makes moving much easier.

I agree with this. And such "hoarding" and "useless junk", living in a room or house with a pile here, another there, papers here, and so on, literally turns into a rabbit hole where everything actually disappears and is lost in, and among things that lose purpose and even reality, the mind is disturbed also.

You can have thinngs, but keep it "not messy". You can have art, or a shrine, even busy with many, but please not a "pile".

I hate it. But when you live in a Family, also you have the situation where others will "pile it on". Sometimes it is "out of your control". Eventually, though, a day comes and I say "enough" and start dumping everything in the garbage.

But then I feel bad because it belongs to them... so I buy them new "stuff". The cycle begins again.

But ... good for the economy in one way.

Anybody here love pastels? I do, and a nice paint job on the walls, open windows and plants ... help. Folk art helps. Fine art, too. Incense. Flowers. I love vases with fresh flowers. And water nearby, or those little fake "indoor waterfalls".

I keep my living space and work space unusually empty/minimalist because I have a pet peeve about clutter. My father was a hoarder and most likely due to that, I went to the totally opposite end of the spectrum.

I believe this. I've read that your surroundings are often a representation of your mind's state. My car is always a mess. But my house and office space are pretty organized and clutter free.
