I don't know ... I think a shot to the head is still the quickest, surest, and most humane way to end someone's life. It may not be as sexy as lethal injection, but the purpose of the injection seems better proven to induce a prettier death for the spectacle as opposed to the most efficient way of causing the least painless death.

And let's not forget the $$, or the fact that the condemned specifically requested for the firing squad. It was an option at the state level and under the state's police powers to grant -- seems justice-y enough.

In a way I agree. It is not that I support death penalty, I just never understood why people have to complicate matters with, say, a lethal injection.

I think a shot to the head is the quickest,surest way to kill a little of the humanity in the shooter, how many shots before he is totally insensitive to the human beings he is shooting until its not a human being at all but somehow an animal or a sub human. the same for a state.

I don't suppose they'd use the same guy every time.

As for a state, no state is killing off convicts the way KFC kills chickens. The process is very careful, rarely implemented, and the due process of every condemned inmate is held in the highest regard.

Some people wait on death row for more than 20 years before they are executed. That's not serving a sentence... that's waiting to serve a sentence.

When you're given a traffic ticket, you have 15 days to respond. Wouldn't it be great if you could wait 20 years instead?

"Because of your failure to respond to the ticket, you're license is hereby revoked... but it won't actually be revoked until 20 years from now"

How cool would that be?
