Not much new in what the Pope said. Catholicism has always said that Christ died for all of humanity. Pope Francis says atheists can do good and go to heaven too! - Living Faith - Home & Family - News - Catholic Online

Trouble is many of us don't believe that. So I don't see the deal in expressing a Catholic belief. I do think this Pope is more PC than some of his predecessors.

Here's a Hindu's plea... Open Letter to Pope Francis | Hindu Human Rights Online News Magazine

Well yeah but thats the core tenet that would be like expecting Hindus to stop believing in Reincarnation or any other belief that you would find equally important. I disagree with their belief but it is theirs and expecting them to just drop it is just not going to happen.

Yes I would like to see him put a stop to the missionaries... That would be a step in the right direction.

You mean exclusivity, as expressed in the letter?

The idea that Jesus died for our sins. That is THE core tenet of Chrstians, if you believe that you are Christian. Not all Christians are exclusive though, example Mormons believe all people go to heaven(according to my Mormon cousin about to leave on a mission).

So what was so special about what this pope said? Well for a LONG time Christians have had this view "One must ACCEPT this sacrifice for it to save you." Thus baptism became a necessity either you accept his forgiveness or you are not forgiven and go to hell. What Franc said is world changing(I was Christian for many years trust me what he said was a BIG deal). He said this forgivness happened for ALL people(nothing new) regardless of whether you believe it or not(VERY NEW). Same old idea new spin.

Yeah, I don't know why I care. I get suckered into (by my own mind, not anything external) these conversations sometimes. :)
