Nah, there was much independence. EnglandUS industrialization couldn't have happened independently from Britain.
guarded its tech jealously, & wouldn't allow export
of their highest tech machine tools, & workers.
US machining technology evolved largely
independently, with the Windsor VT area
becoming the hi tech capital of the world by
1830 or so. In particular, standards relating
to interchangeable parts flourished here.
Of course, USA benefitted from the Watt high
pressure steam engine (Scottish) in particular.
But we improved that with the uniflow, Corliss
& similar advancements. Thereafter, internal
combustion engine tech came from primarily
from Germany (Otto) in the 1860s, & Diesel in
the early 1900s.
What's your source of info about the financing
of companies that manufactured engines,
machine tools, & other goods? In don't recall
reading about British financiers involved.
