Yeah, it's rather odd that everything that Putin and Russia are doing with this tends towards achieving the opposite too. Perhaps he just looks long-term, as in a hundred years or so - at best.I can't help but see the irony that a critical goal of the invasion is to monopolize the oil and natural gas energy reserves of Ukraine and yet, as a consequence of the invasion, no one will buy energy from Russia.
Also ironic that if the goal is to make Russia secure from invasion, yet Russia is starting World War III.
Further ironic that if the goal is to restore the glory of a past Russian empire, yet the world now sees Russia as a pariah.
In other news, for the first time in history Finland is seriously considering joining NATO. And a significant part of the reason for that may be because of Putin's warning to Sweden and Finland not to join NATO (Russia has unsuccessfully attempted to invade Finland before).
The problem of unintended consequences, eh.I can't help but see the irony that a critical goal of the invasion is to monopolize the oil and natural gas energy reserves of Ukraine and yet, as a consequence of the invasion, no one will buy energy from Russia.

Hitler won?
There is some logic in it, and I wasn't aware of the water issue. Still can't understand the mentality of any Russian who considers one has to have buffer states in the 21st century, unless one was so against capitalism and democracy or so paranoid. And all the excuses just can't stack up against destroying a country and killing so many - just in case. Of course none of this is mentioned by Putin but rather he invents convenient pretexts for home consumption. The video made an interesting point about the water problem in Crimea.
So, the focus of the video seems to be that it's a fight over oil and natural gas. That would make sense.
I find this a baffling non sequitur. Its why the bad guy always wins. Fear of unintended consequences.
