Violent games!

Been there, done that, doing it again :D

A lot of studies are showing that the mind of a kid can get twisted after playing violent games. There are also example of kids shooting guns at school and fathers hitting kids because they were playing with their xbox!

On the other hand, there also an equal amount of studies saying that playing games is soothing and less children are hitting the streets to play their game in real life.
And if you take away those few kids shooting in schools, it's the streetkids who do bully and shoot guns without acces to computers or mood for videogames vs the classical gaming nerd wich doesn't even leave the house except in his virtual mind.

It started with games like mortal kombat in where you kill your enemy after a fight and carmageddon in where you need to hit people and animals while driving a car.
But games are getting more and more realistic. Manhunt was allready forbidden in a few countries.

On wich side are you?

I don't find anything wrong with video games. Like Doom & Wolfenstein 3D are some of my favorites. Those and also Mortal Kombat that you have stated can increase a person's aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in actual life, according to two studies appearing in the April issue of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. But I haven't turned into a psycho :D.

There have always been bullies.

Drugs are the main cause of street violence amoungst youths, both muggings to buy them and being high making them violent.

Video games are less violent than most action films.

If a kid is spending his money on games he's not spending it on drugs or knives.

Video games allow people to express their violent nature through non-violent means.

I think practically all the controversy over violent video games has been a indulgent distraction by people who have an over-active imagination.

An increase in aggressive feelings after playing violent computer games is not a problem. Have there been any comparisons with aggressive feelings after playing competitive sports? Very probably not. If there had been I'm sure it would be found that aggressive feelings are more prominant after something like a soccer match than they are after a play on Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. Do people get freaked out about their kids playing sports? No. Teenagers have aggressive feelings in response to a lot of things.

I personally hate those who say violent games are bad for you. I played Grand Theft Auto when it first came out. I was like 5... I aint no sicko running through the streets with a knife...

Kids get too much stick for one kid getting insparation from Manhunt.

Actually there are no studies that show movies, games or anything else cause violent behavior. They did do research between Canada and the USA and found that the violence occurring in American children was out of hand while the Canadian children who watched the same movies and played the same games had no violent reaction. I would tell you the problem but I don't want to tick anyone off.

Somebody can correlate violent games and children all they want in an array of potential scenarios, but at the end of the day, they are mere correlations. For example, I can correlate the number of times I wipe my butt in a day with the number of cats that die off from shark attacks, but it is just a correlation.

Let's fact the facts. Kids are taught by their perspective guardians/ parents. If the kid is screwing up, that support structure either is lacking or abscent or the kid is mentally ill. Chances are its one of the first two.

Let's say we take away violent video games from Earth. Then what? Well, violent things on television should logically be next, followed by sharp corners and bad breathe. Any subsequent logic addresses only the symptoms of the issue at hand and not the cause.

The cause is a parent/guardian system whose responsibility it is to teach. Sure many screws up and as a result, general broad strokes will be drawn over the issue as games causing your kids to shoot cats with BB guns.

Let's just solve the problem by acknowledging that before having a child or caring for one, one should first have to obtain a PARENTING LICENSE because let's face it - not everyone is cut out for it.

i dont believe that games etc cause violence. however the society that we live in means we have become desensitzed to violence to quite a startling degree. (just think of videos that were banned as too vioent 20 years ago, but now look a bit like a fairy story to us).

You want violence??? I'll give you violence.

Get the kids to stop watching power rangers. Power rangers condone the killing of creatures just because they're over weight and bigger than average (and trying to eat buildings).

It's morally something ...
