Vivek does not please me.

He's in DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), a non-official department together with Elon where he still has to act with congress.

It has cutting waste, deregulation and government efficiency (like the swamp).

So I guess I'm sad he is doing something so important but glad he is limited. Overall I'm very relieved. He always terrorized me.
Also he seems to at least have a good heart.

One of the biggest sources of waste in the US Government is connected to New Administrations, adding new programs, which get funded to last, say, 5 years. After the five years, when the funding ends, the people do not go away, but they get internally funded with funny money that is not appropriated by Congress. The Government never shrinks to keep the funding promises. Some of it has to do with Unions and not being able to fire people. This is part of the fraud in Government. There is also money appropriated that was more than was needed; COVID fund. This money gets warehoused or stolen, but not given back.

The Department of Education was actually formed via an Executive Order by President Jimmy Carter. Trump can end it with an Executive order since it was never approved by Congress. Their power and money will go to the states. The one size fits all approach, from central control, does not take into account the different needs of rural and urban. The states can do this better. Plus the Department of Education has been a propaganda house that is designed to rot the brain's of young people with DNC propaganda.

The reason Trump chose Vivek and Elon are both are outsiders and neither are beholden to the bureaucracy they wish to improve. Plus they are both very rich and cannot be bribed or intimidated, since they are both too self sufficient. The goal of making the Government more efficient, has been tried before; Ronald Regan, but Regan appointed people from the inside, so bribes and intimidation ruined their efforts. Trump understands if you give the Democrats an insider say, they will use it to sabotage the efforts.

Elon and Vivek are putting together a larger team from outside Government. Most will be leaders in Industry where efficiency is necessary to be competitive. A Government monopoly is subject to bloat since bloat means more chiefs and power. This Government is not designed for the people, but for the Bureaucracy.

Agencies, like FEMA, due to DEI, has also shown how politics has entered Government, with the DNC using tax dollars, like their private slush fund, for disaster relief discrimination; punish the opposition. The secret service DEI did it to Trump. These crooked people will be weeded out and all DEI removed. Government needs to be for all people and not just the Swamp. You will need the best people and not the most beholden to run a leaner Government, with the more efficient work load.

What do you mean he always terrorized you? Do you know him personally and he did things specifically to you to terrorize you, or what?

His plan, he freely said, was radical: slashing the federal work force by 75 percent, 50 percent in Year 1, and eliminating large swaths of the federal government.
This is either a lie, or it's sincered.
The latter is dangerous.
Why?
Transitioning 75% of the federal work force would
mean new hires learning much on-the-job. Hiring
that many people would mean difficulty getting
& vetting qualified people. The transition would
mean new & old workers simultaneously managing
the transition.
Eliminating workers would mean that either the work
doesn't get done, or it's sloughed off onto workers
already doing another job.
Ever talk to the IRS about problems? It takes them
months to follow up on each interaction. It can take
years to finalize things like a tax return for a deceased
relative. They lack dedicated trained personnel.
I've dealt with other federal agencies too, eg, FBI, DHS.
The only time they act quickly & decisively is when they
want to over-react to events triggering security theater.

Government needs some efficiency improvemenets.
But simplistic promises to fire many, & re-hire fewer
will only make things worse.

Currently, about 70% of the Federal Government workforce still work remotely; lingering COVID fad.

Almost 70% of federal employees still telework, OPM poll finds

Since government still functions with remote employees, that means you could shift government employees to the states and they could run the Government from a distance. You could even move blocks of Government, to the States, Department of Agriculture to Ohio. Workers in California, Florida and other agricultural states, could work remotely, connected to the mother ship in Ohio, as just easy as to Washington. This also puts agricultural expertise, near the farmers, in many states, making it more responsive to end user needs.

Centralized control makes it more corruptible. One stop shopping for quid pro quo. Spreading out the government also makes corruption harder, since you cannot have direct meetings in clandestine places, very easy. These meetings may need to be done over the internet or phones, which are not as private; deterrent.

I worked for Government; DOE, during the Reagan years, and I agreed with his Government cost cutting approach. I was even a victim of it. I lost funding for a contined stay at the Oak Ridge National Lab, while my FBI Q-clearance was processed, so I could work at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge. It was an interesting place to work, having been built as part of the Manhattan Project; living museum.

When I finally started to work, I tried to be more efficient and save money. But the bureaucracy would fill in the open spots, rather than maintain the savings. Each June we had June Jubilee, where you would spent all your left over money, on your work wish list. Then you get a new batch of money, for the next fiscal year. Being efficient makes you an outsider, so eventually you needed to comply to get along. I remember one year going way over budget and everyone seemed happier. Go figure! There is room to improve.

There's merit in that approach.
I know people who work remotely. Most
occasionally go to the physical office, so
living near it limits the ability to live far away.
I don't know to what extent the fed gov could
migrate its workforce to cheaper locations.

Even with remote workers, government control
is centralized. I'm skeptical that corruption would
be reduced by using more remote workers.

I've worked for both government & government
contractors. I've seen what you say.
