VT Professor gave life to save students...

This is amazing. What an incredible man.

"Then the gunfire started coming closer. Librescu, 77, fearlessly braced himself against the door, holding it shut against the gunman in the hall, while students darted to the windows of the second-floor classroom to escape the slaughter, survivors said."

A heroic act indeed.

That's the one thing about these tragedies... They show you what terrible things people are capable of, but then they also show you the self-less acts of heroism people are also capable of.

It may have been better to blockade the door with his desk.

At 77, it might be more practical to block a door with your body than try to quickly move a heavy desk.

People, don't turn this into a debate about what he should have done or had time for. Just recognize that this man was a hero.

That is an astounding act of heroism...I had not yet heard this.

I think we each of us hope that if the time came that we would do the same. But there is always that doubt. Actually hearing of someone who had that courage is both inspiring and encouraging. Goddess Bless Him.

From what I've read, Librescu was also a Holocaust survivor.

He truly lived an amazing life.

Exactly. Good lord... it must have been difficult enough to even have the presence of mind to do something besides doing what most every other victim did: Freeze up. The man's a hero.
