Through the Looking Glass
2001 is an homage to Nietzsche. As for soft SF, some of the best SF is "soft" - technology can date badly quite quickly. That said, 2001 has to be one of my favourite SF movies.

"Wake up, dad! Please, wake up. We've gotta go, dad! DAD!"Wall-E was great.... But, it seemed to easy to get. Not enough going on, it goes too easy.
Old timers such as the Lion King had more to follow at once, and i think that is what i loved. They are making it all a little too easy to get at the moment. I know a kid doesent want a complicated storyline, but i think movies nowadays are too easy to follow.
My point is that, Lion King is the best movie made in history of films. No movie EVER will be better than it.
Wall*E was fantastic, but a far cry from the best sci-fi picture ever made. I wouldn't even say it's the best KIDS sci-fi film. Well, maybe if you break it down even further by age-appropriateness, but then it's the only one (as far as I know).
Anyway, I loved the movie, right down to the credits.
I'll probably see it on DVD. Is it just me or does Wall-E look just like Johnny 5?
And both are copying E.T.yes he does lol\
I saw Wall-E a while ago, and I thought it was very good indeed. Very enjoyable.
Titan AE I love that movie.

Which, BTW, is a terrific SF movie for kids (better than Wall-E, IMO).
You'll probably have trouble finding it, I'm afraid. It wasn't very successful.I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.

That's a common mistake with the new animation technologies - thinking that improvements in technology and celebrity voices can somehow replace good stories and good characters. Pixar's success is 90% writing and 10% CGI.I liked Titan AE for Fox's guts in the production values, but the story-telling fell WAY flat. Some of the characters were good, though. However, Titan AE is notorious for effectively obliterating Fox's once large animation department.
I disagree with you about the storytelling, but I'm admittedly not that critical. A movie either engrosses me or doesn't. Titan AE did.I liked Titan AE for Fox's guts in the production values, but the story-telling fell WAY flat. Some of the characters were good, though. Yes it is! That's why 2001 is so great, too. I've always had a special fondness for the silence of the late seventies version of The Black Stallion for that reason. We find ourselves in silence perhaps.By attempting to directly express the signified objects, it's easier to break through the ambiguity of socially-defined labels and get the real messages across.

I find myself taken aback when people say they hated it.I was surprised by Wall-E.
Rather enjoyed it in its simplicity.

... I almost feel sorry!
