Is there anything Democrats learned from the debacle?
Granted Trump is not excelling in Diplomacy but Democrats are losing big at civility and honesty

Was it right for Trump to call Maxine low IQ?

"To cooperate with evil is evil"-- Gandhi, and so much of what Trump has said and done well fit into that category, and yet so many "Christians" somehow believe that's all fine & dandy. To them I have to ask "What Would Jesus Do"? Seems like they've forgotten what Jesus was largely about.
At least looking across the ocean it seems WWJD means separating children from their parents on what amounts to an excuse. Just to mess with them, then lie about giving them vitamins and put in sedatives. If someone thinks Jesus would be fine with that then I'd just label them hypocrites.

I am a fan of Maxine Waters, but this was a big mistake. I don’t think she meant to encourage violence, but her words were reckless and could possibly be dangerous, not only to the Trump people being confronted, but also to those doing the confronting.

Yes these people need to be confronted, the policies need to be resisted. But it needs to be done in a safe and effective way. The resistance movement needs sound leadership. And this week Maxine Waters failed to provide that.

Still a fan, hope she does better.

Yes its wrong, and dangerous. I don't think she intended actual violence (at least I hope not), but our politicians on both sides (yes that means the President too), need to tone down the rhetoric. There are unfortunately unstable people that take what they say as an excuse to do harm. As we have seen.

Yes it's wrong. And it's wrong for Trump to say anything about it given his calls for violence during the election.

False equivalence anyways.

Maxine didn't call for violence like Trump did, Maxine said speak up and shame people. Big difference.

I find it difficult to find sympathy for Trump and Trump's cabinet.
If you seperate and lock up little kids and demonise innocent people, labelling them animals and rapists, if you defend right wing murderers and grab women by the *****, expect some sort of violent response.

Whether Maxine intended a violent threat or not, millions of people wouldn't need goading, they would be only too ready to visit violence upon those who act callously against the most vulnerable in society.

That would be an example of poorly chosen and undiplomatic words by Trump
I agree with him that her statement was inappropriate but the way he answered wasn't do great either, particularly the low IQ comment

But maybe both sides thrive on controversy

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It seems uncivil and not appropriate and encourages more of the same
good leadership? Sadly no.

Has the democratic party lost it's way?

Quote
Judicial Watch sent a hand-delivered letter Monday to the chairman and co-chairman of the House Office of Congressional Ethics calling for an investigation into whether Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., violated House ethics rules by encouraging violence against Trump administration Cabinet members.

The Office of Congressional Ethics describes itself on its website as “an independent, non-partisan entity charged with reviewing allegations of misconduct against Members, officers, and staff of the U.S. House of Representatives and, when appropriate, referring matters to the House Committee on Ethics.”

Waters addressed a rally in Los Angeles on Saturday and told a crowd: “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them! And you tell them that they are not welcome, anymore, anywhere.”

She's doing a great job at exposing the true nature of liberal socialist Democrats.

All she needs now is purple hair and a baseball bat. Make the student body at Evergreen College proud of her.

WWJD isn't really part of the policy in any direct way
however the Bible does want the alien in the land treated fairly
as is also the case for widows, orphans

I would be in favor of a generous but safe immigration policy
In the Obama years I don't think you could call it safe or reasonable

I suppose some people on both left and right do a great job of sounding a bit odd at times and could reigning the dialog a bit more

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
So you're fine with what she did?
to me, it sounds like awkward phrasing being deliberately misconstrued for political mileage. And I don't even support the Democrats FWIW. I'd like all politicians to more clearly say what they mean, but I'm prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to anyone who says something ambiguous once or twice. Compared to the orange, tiny handed elephant in the room, this hardly even rates.
And no, I am not fine with much of Trump's rhetoric either
Do you call Trump on the bits you're not fine with, or is this one of those "my side, right or wrong" situations?

I agree...more reigning in the dialog would certainly help !
But......we have Trump to reign in, that's the big problem !
At our disposal....
- SCOTUS
- The 2020 election
- The 2018 mid-term elections
- Influence by civil discourse, eg, the current & ex-presidential wives regarding family separations

Those are much more effective methods than profane celebrities,
shooting Republicans, burning cars, & booting staff from restaurants.

You started out well, imo, until you slipped into deflection mode. Trump is president, and it is his baby now, so let's deal with that, OK?

The fact that you interpret "push back" as inciting mob violence tells me more about you than Water's quote tells me about her.
Tom
He's just repeating the propaganda from RW media. RW media takes the word, spins it and the audience is running around in public thinking she incited violence. That's lying, but normal for RW media.
