People say he was racist, particularly when he said he'll hand Hong Kong back to China "over his dead body". He also suggested bombing German cities and gassing prisoners of war. Then there was the Bengal Famine- was it his fault?

On the other hand Churchill praised the Sikhs and actually pioneered the creation of Mosques in London.

Speaking of which, why did he defect to the Liberal Democrats and then revert back to Conservative?

Probably about average as human beings go. It doesn’t really make sense to expect famous figures of history to be especially good or especially bad (unless that’s the specific reason they’re famous of course).
