Water fasting

Caladan

Well, i'm finishing my 7th day of drinking only water with no food. (had to eat a couple of vegetables at a family dinner not to look too alienated).
I'm not doing this for religious purposes obviously, its a quick way for me to lose that extra baggage that's been bugging me the last few years and just me getting back to my optimal physique. so far I've lost 11 lbs (or 5 KGs).
sometimes the fasting brings interesting physical sensations such as feeling light and a certain buzz, and while people say you are supposed to be exauhsted, I played beach tennis this afternoon with a lady friend of mine, and kicked her ***.
Im interested to know if other people experienced with this, and for how long, what were the results, etc.

I've never fasted for more than two days (I get major cravings for protein) but I did notice some of the physical effects you mentioned. It's almost a sense of exhilaration.
Interestingly enough after a certain length of time without food I tend to feel just as full as if I'd had a decent meal.

Sounds neat.

I'd like to try it to see if I get the exhilaration and buzz, but I fear that I'd lose too much weight. It's hard enough as it is for me to maintain the weight I'm at now, and I don't want my weight to go any lower.

Maybe a short fast would be ok, so the net calorie loss isn't so much. How long does it take to start feeling the buzz? I think with my luck I'd probably just end up feeling exhausted rather than get these positive sorts of feelings.

I mentioned a serious fast I was doing once in the chat...
and almost everyone jumped on me.

As if i were killing mySelf or something.
I was really sorry that I'd mentioned it.

Anyway, good luck with it. :)

Fasting is an interesting way to find out many things about yourself.

I haven't done it for some years, but when I was younger I have done it Regularly. If you are doing it right you can do all what you are doing normal and more. You need not so much sleep and your senses become more strength.

After fasting you find new range of smell and taste, it is a perfect way to teach yourself new behavior and new dimensions of good food...

The Problem are the first three days, when you are over it... :)

Your thread's title is a bit misleading buddy ... when I read 'water fasting,' I immediately thought of words like 'suicide' and 'death'.

:)

There are different forms of fasting, one only with water, maybe Tea, some with juice or Soup, and some with 3-7 days nothing no food no water... The last is hard and can really cause death, the rest is for a normal healthy person no Prob. Only a question of will....

Fasting with water is a really healthy thing as long as you have a look at the reactions on your body and End it when you see a Problem of health.

But normaly you can do it 4 or more weeks with ease when you have no health Probs. My longest was 6 month, but that is a time period where you really need to know what you are doing... And how to work with your resources...

Yes, I forgot to mention, if any member is thinking about preaching me about how i'm damaging my body, do keep the preaching to yourself, i'm not interested. trust me, my body has overcame much more difficult things than fasting.

Yes I have read about the empowering of the senses, the recovery of the body through fasting, and many other benefits.

How about sharing some of your experiences?

it becomes boring...

And you learn how much cultural and social interaction is going through food... the eat together is part of Peacful come together... If you do not eat you have to talk, and there are many people who do not love to talk about their truth, and that causes Problems ;) So enjoy the meal with the family when you do not want to hear the Probs of others or talk about all and nothing...

But if you have People around, strong thoughtful, with much experience about life, and you want to learn, fasting together is a great ability to open the mind and use the time to talk, to discuss

But not to taste anything becomes really boring, so I ended with the Insight that I can reach everything what I want, but I really like eating and taste and smell of good food and herbs...

I could use a fast myself, actually. I have only ever done it when I've been sick. Any suggestions on how to get started if I want to experiment? I work a lot, so I'm concerned about that. Does it interfere with concentration or anything like that? Should I wait until I have time off? Also, I know dieting screws up your metabolism and makes you put on weight faster when you stop. How does fasting compare?

The first three days are hard, there you have not much brain for thinking, most have Headache this time...

After the third day you have all power you had before and more. You are more clear in your thoughts, and it is a perfect time to meditate and find out about the self.

So begin with some days you have absolut Free, and not disturbed by anyone.
To begin it is the best empty the Gastrointestinal tract. There are some good Medicine for this.
Headache and Hunger after the third day is a Hint that your Gastrointestinal tract is not empty.

You have to trink the Double of what you drink normal better more. No Coffee and no Alkohol and no cigaretts...

The first days it can be that you became a little bit cold, so take warm clothes and/or go walking in the sun.

The first days no real sport, begin with sports at the fourth or fifth day, than you Material body has learned that all is OK with fasting.

When you are healthy you can do all you want after the first three days. Sport is sensful, you must be in movement equal if sports or normal walks, wandering.... This is important because Muscles are easier to burn than Fat, and so if you are not in Movement you can lost Muscles and that can cause Probs.

Here in Europe there are really organized fasting Holidays, with wandering in the mountains or strong sports program. I do not know if such Travel Organisations exist in America too, but fasting in a group can have much fun and is motivating...

I got asked a while ago "How do you stay so thin?"

My response was "I don't eat."

Now, while it was entirely 100% true, there were times where I just didn't feel like eating for up to 4-5 days at a time. Tell ya what, it sure saves money on lunches, doing that once a month or so!

I began fasting after I finished my work in certain excavation. my attention is more focused now on the academy. so it might be a good idea to wait till you have a time off, although I don't know what is your line of work, excavation is a field work, in middle eastern heat, and we had terrific food to boot.
I think in some ways concentration might be clearer. as for metabolism, I read conflicting views, some people harshly criticized fasting and its effects, while others listed a myriad of positive effects, one thing is for sure if you are also asking about weight loss, you WILL lose weight, and it will be noticeable each day.

Thanks to this thread,
I'm considering another fast.

Juice fasts are good.
(squeezed yourself)

Just a little pulp and natural sugar
to help keep you going.

I've never done water only for more than 3 days.
And that was years back.

I was eating one salad every 14 to 24 hours
when everyone jumped all over me.

I think I may go back to that.

I get that all the time. I mean I didn't want anything to eat today but I forced myself to eat some soup simply because I thought, "Well... you have to eat something". Never occured to me to just fast for a while. Think I'll give it a go.

Cheers, Caladan, this should be an interesting few days.

Yah, I just listen to my body. If I'm hungry, I'll eat. Which most often is bout 2-3 times a day. Sometimes my body just likes a break from food, I think.
