Were Jesus and Muhammad insane?

Very true. There are numerous individuals who make such grandiose claims in this day and age and no one takes them seriously. It's because we now understand mental illness far better that they did millennia ago. We don't consider them to be possessed or demons or messengers from God, we understand that they are simply people suffering from mental disorders. If Jesus and Mohammad were alive today they'd either be homeless and living in some alley or in an asylum somewhere.
Jesus would likely be homeless by choice. He was an ascetic, wandering preacher. It's not like He couldn't take care of Himself.

I personally don't think neither Jesus nor Muhammad ever existed, but if they did wouldn't they be considered lunatics or having a delusional disorder, or grandiose delusions that occur in people suffering from a wide range of psychiatric diseases, including schizophrenia. These patients are characterized by bizarre beliefs that one is omnipotent or powerful. These delusions typically are religious and supernatural.

So considering the preposterous things they said, wouldn't they be considered insane?

Oh how I wish that were true.

COBOL did you ever see a crazy man followed by a single person supporting him in what he presumes? Please mind your mind

Do you not know anything?

There have been plenty of crazy people claiming to be prophets, or a god in history, and modern times with a following.

That's not how mental diagnoses are made.

Did someone claim that this is how mental diagnoses are made? I simply said that in today's world the vast majority of people would consider both individuals to be mentally ill. We no longer live in a superstitious society where mentally ill people are thought to be possessed or messengers from God.

Who cares what the "vast majority" of people think about anything? That has no bearing on this issue.

Did you read the original post? Cobol's entire point was that if these individuals were alive today that people would consider them to be insane. What exactly did you think the 'issue' was?
And we don't diagnose mental illness according to what the majority thinks of an individual. Get it?

My main point is, if Jesus and Muhammad were alive today, they would be considered mentally ill, and would be medicated.

Gee... and no one ever claimed that we do... get it? Clearly the entire point of the post went right over your head. I believe Cobol was pointing out that the vast majority of Christians in this day and age would consider Jesus to be mentally ill, if he were to approach them on the street and claim to be a messenger from God. And with mental institutions filled with people making such claims, it wouldn't be all that unreasonable for them to jump to such a conclusion, even if it isn't an official diagnoses. It's really not that complex a concept grasp. I'm not sure why you're having so much difficulty with it.

I comprehended your point. It's just irrelevant, as this thread is.
