As a Setian I can tell you that the Left-Hand Path is not about worshipping some guy with horns and a pitch fork who lives at the center of the Earth. It is not about "evil", it is not about animal or human sacrifice, it is not just about gratification of the ego. The LHP does not require worship, but rather study and practice. The LHP is not a faith it is a philosophy of life and magic which is determined by the individual. It is about Self-directed Self-evolution. The LHP is not for the lazy or weak of mind and will.

Nine Virtues of the Left-Hand Path:
I. Strength of mind and will.
II. Ambition and self-determination.
III. Individuality (strong sense of Self).
IV. Goal setting.
V. Hard Work.
VI. Creativity and imagination.
VII. Talent.
VIII. Fearless yet prudent.
IX. Love of Life.

(This, by no means is a definitive list, others may chime in with their own ideas of LHP virtues.)

Now that is interesting.

Who was it? What Satanists did you see act like that? Can you describe them? Can you tell us how you found out they were Satanists?

Great list. Some time it can be hard to discuss things like 2&4 because individuals can have totaly different desires so goals are set and met so differently its hard to see the semblance.

I fond religions interesting, there are so many of them ,many with vast beliefs. I don't know much about things like satanism beyond what I read so if you follow a LHP what are common misconceptions people have about your faith

That we are all Satanists, or that we eat babies and kill puppies. The SRA was disproven by the FBI. Or that Satanists, or just the Theistic ones are "reverse Christians". Though there really isn't "reverse Christians" as one would expect to find given the phrase.

That it is about blaspheny / heterodoxy, that it is dark and negative, that it is about absolute selfishness, that it is about worshiping evil entities, and that Satan and Lucifer are the same entity (and that I care even the slightest bit about Christian beliefs).

Um... actually it kind of is about the Heterodox, but who says that the Heterodox has to be dark and negative? It can be a very positive and liberating thing. You have the RHP tendencies of man, and the LHP that is always going to be present because of that.

The way I see it, if Satanism is meant to be the antithesis of the Christian Church, then it would be filled with lovable scamps, as opposed to straight-laced jerks.

:D

1) Satan has something do to with the Church of Satan. (they're atheists)

2) Anton LaVey invented Satanism in 1966 and he actually wrote the book. (He didn't write much of _The Satanic Bible_ most of it comes from Ayn Rand, Ragnar Redbeard, with a taste of Nietzsche and has little to do with anything Satanic.)

3) We believe in the biblical definition of Satan. Actually, most theistic Satanists have no belief that anything in the bible is correct. Personally, I tend to look at it like someone would look at the ballads of old or epic poems. Sure, the gist is probably right but the details are lost in the re-tellings. Why use the name Satan? Some view it as symbolic of the current which opposes the dogma of the mainstream others view it is a literal sense or as a piece of them. My view of Satan is personal because that is how the relationship developed where as I always felt I was pretending in church and to appease family members.

4) We're into abusing children, animals, and burning churches. No, no, no. Despite our rebel natures we don't really want a high profile and most of us are ordinary joes besides our reading interests. The last thing any of us wants to do is be on the news! We are usually VERY private people.

5) There are no official churches... Even _The Church of Satan_ is a mere couple of thousand. Feel free to compare that to the numbers of Baptists or Catholics, or even Amish. We're just getting out under the boot of censorship and finally getting some things out there. Read S. Connelly, Don Webb, LaVey, Robert Greene, Machiavelli, and others to understand the philosophy and life really. The more someone seems to narrow in view the less they know of us. We're neither all this nor all that. :)

There a lot of wastes of life posting in youtube whom actually have little to do with Satanism other than to get popular, drug, and laid. Honestly, I can't blame 'em but they have very little to do with the real deal. My short list of people to avoid: Zach Black, Jason King, and Venus Satanas. None of these folks actually say anything important. :)
