If you celebrate the American Thanksgiving, what are you doing for it this year?

Looks like I'll be celebrating at the Chinese buffet.

Are you looking forward to it?

It's food! What's not to look forward to?

Do you plan to go shopping on Black Friday?

I don't do Black Friday. While there are some good deals out there, I really don't like getting up at midnight (though I will be up anyway because I'm closing tonight) or being in crowds of irrational and crazed people.

What? Me worry?
Only time of year I cook. Found a recipe years ago how to brine a turkey. I love turkey on Thanksgiving but having a good turkey was basically a jump ball. However, when you soak that turkey in a brine solution overnight, there's never a bad turkey (unless, of course, you try to screw it up). I haven't let anyone near the turkey/oven combination since I cooked that first one that I soaked in that magical salt/herb liquid. Have to head to Lowes in minute to buy my traditional 5 gallon bucket (always use a new one). Bon apetit....

My sister's house. She cooks an insane and obscene amount of food, no matter what the occasion. Silly Italians. If I can see my way clear time-wise I may go to temple in the morning. There's no special puja, but I can go to thank Maa Lakshmi for the good things she's given me.

Well, there's a postal strike here, so my cyber Monday plans have been thwarted.
I'm visiting family in the States for thanksgiving, then I plan on buying new PC parts.

We, the three humans, wife, friend and me, are having salmon made with Indian spices (not the Native American kind). The 4 dogs, ours, our friends two and the one whose staying with us while another friend is off, are having turkey and chicken.

Everyone, human and canine, are having various veges selected to please the palate and not upset the tummy.

I, in a show of what I'm made of, am thinking of putting a sign on the table reading "I dieted for over 7 months and I won't let one meal turn back the clock" to remind me not to overeat. I know that is unAmerican or worse, but I'm not concerned about being picked up and sent to Gitmo over this mega-sin.

On Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I spent the Saturday in a meeting in Michigan because the organization I volunteer with didn't realize that it was a holiday weekend for its Canadian members.

Edit: on the Sunday and Monday (Monday's our official holiday), I had lots of turkey and potatoes. Oh - and this year, smoked ham.

Going to celebrate with my wife's family with a get together over a turkey...made in an Instant Pot!

I've largely dropped Xmas shopping and I don't concern myself with bargain shopping or shopping on special bargain days.

I created a bit of a controversy when I refused my grandmother's efforts to heap mashed potatoes on my plate many years ago. It is hard to resist when a feast is at hand.

One of my favorite scenes in any Harry Potter movie are the tables in the dining hall with all the food laid out. If I went to Hogwarts I would either be the fattest kid in the school or I would learn to moderate under the safety of the regular availability of food.

Just another day in paradise for me. We did Thanksgiving here in Canada awhile back.

I don't need anything to put up with the insanity of Black Friday.

A low key feed perhaps... maybe some Bambi's will come by...

Tell me, is there actually a way to make pumpkin pie taste of anything but sugar and cinnamon? Or is this simply one of those things that obey my general rule that "national dishes" should always be avoided like the plague?
Put in more pumpkin. ;0]

I'm skipping Black Friday. Did it once never again. It's a scam anyways, they only have like one or two items in stock on sale for the advertised price. When you get there it's done and gone much to your disappointment and then it takes you literally 3 hours just to walk out of the store since floor space is highly contested territory.

I looked forward to it. I cooked and then, I am cleaning. They offered to help but I told them, "what else do I have to do such as I have no TV and look, it is chaos and I am good with that." :) I am good with chaos. Now, you know that about me.

Do you plan to go shopping on Black Friday?
I do not want to but I need cat food so ya, I'll shop. I can't wait!

Contemplating how Native Americans feel about it, after seeing a native woman speak about how it's a day of mourning for them. Since moving no family is around anyway, so might as well take time to take in another perspective.
My neighbors are Seneca. They celebrate Thanksgiving every year with all the trimmings. That said, I do take the time to consider that it's not really a completely thankful holiday for everyone.

I think it's because the first "Thanksgiving" of and itself was a pleasant affair when it was just a limited number of people.

Of course down the line everyone knows how history turned out.
