What are your Favourite Movies?

Smoke

Done here.
Now I regret posting my fake list  I love Kevin Smith but not Clerks 2 , and apart from the ones I have made red on your list which I haven't seen ,I love all these movies, have you seen 'Wonderboys' with Michael Douglas, or 'Shadow of the Vampire' ? Just curious as we seem to have some intersecting tastes in film.
I've seen Wonderboys and loved it; I haven't seen Shadow of the Vampire, but considering what else you like, maybe I should.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
This theater used to belong to my family. Can anyone guess where it is? (Hint - it's a pretty famous place.) It was one of three hundred + theaters that my great uncle owned. He built most of them between 1935 and 1975. I have really fond memories of playing in those huge, dark theaters in the middle of the day before the matinees started.

Here's the same theater - back in the day:

I also got to watch a lot of movies for free! That was cool too.

Once we went on location while he was making a movie (he made some pretty bad movies - definitely B grade!). I had breakfast with a weird combo of people - Slim Pickens and Jacqueline Smith. They were filming a very stupid movie called "The Bootleggers" (you can Google it if you don't believe me!). But it was really interesting to watch how a movie is filmed, even a poor one.

The Joy Theater in New Orleans! I last heard about it after Katrina...

WOW, THAT WAS FAST! You win!!!

I wish I could afford to buy it back and restore it. My uncle had to sell it after his bookkeeper screwed up his taxes and he had to pay a ton of back taxes.

Oh well!

I think it's for sale for about 1.2 million now. A bit out of my price range, but you know what they say - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

That's sad. I used to work with a women from New Orleans and we'd always talk about classic theaters here in L.A. like the Egyptian or Grauman's Chinese and she told me about The Joy Theater back home. I grew up in a film career family so I was always curious about the famous theaters where all the premieres and stuff were held.

Hey, I wonder if your people know my people. I'm serious. My family is responsible for such fabulous movies as "The Town That Dreaded Sundown," "His Wife's Habit," "Down By Law," "Creature From Black Lake," "Soggy Bottom USA," "Night of Bloody Horror," and "The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek," just to name a few jewels.

Not that I'm particularly proud of that legacy, but it's sort of quirky fun.

These movies are best after a lot of beer.

Lol. Maybe, my dad didn't work in the studios 'til the late 60s into the mid 90s. Would the Houks be your peeps? If so, I'll ask my dad if he remembers the name. I actually love Creature From Black Lake!

Well, let your dad know that my dad is very interested in researching family stuff and he is all about that movie industry history especially - not just the family history of it but the whole industry from the 30's thru the 70's especially. Maybe they have some interests in common!

I don't know why that old picture house, reminds me of a story about my grandmother, when she was in her 30's a travelling 'moving picture show' came to the townland where our farm was ( I am from a very rural background on my Da's side) and the family went to see a showing of the tv show 'the lone ranger' about 10 minutes into the show the lone ranger shoots an 'evil' Indian, well my Grandmother was appalled and actually started to cry, much to my Da's embarassment, she howled loudly in the tent full of neighbours, 'the poor man , he's been killed' sobbing her heart out :biglaugh: ,times have changed a bit.

I will! I'm sure they both have at the very least bumped into the same studio folk at some point. Hell, I just found out about a year ago my dad worked on The Birds! He never told me! He knows it's one of my favorite Hitchcock films too.
Parents...

That is very cool! What a great movie.

I am sure they know some of the same people. It's a small world.

I think my favourite Hitchock film is rope, but my favourite scene is in Torn Curtain, when the 'heros' are pummelling the guy with the shovel, makes me laugh my *** off , every time, and then I watch a tarantino film and have nothing but scorn for him, which is sad, because I like a lot of his films, he is one of the most talented hacks around,

I wish I could rep this post...;)

But The Birds and Rope are my two top Hitch' films. I'm that annoying film guy that likes to point out that Rope wasn't all one take but had a few edits in it. Yeah, annoying...

eta: 10 edits. :p
