What book(s) are you reading now?

Almost finished A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn
Also browsing The Elegant Universe
Picked up, but haven't yet read, The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould
Received The Moral Landscape by Sam Harris today as a wedding gift :D

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Othello is a great one. Have you seen the movie starring Lawrence Fishburne?

Oh, I loved that movie. Kenneth Branaugh is the Gods gift to Shakespeare, as far as I'm concerned.

I am currently reading several books:

Roman Religion: A Sourcebook
Teaching Witchcraft
Ethics and the Craft
Wicked Lovely (when I need something escapist, I go to YA lit or sometimes historical fiction)

I agree about Kenneth Branaugh - Henry V is probably my favorite of that genre - or Much Ado About Nothing (lots and lots of pretty men in that one!).

Your books sound interesting, especially the one on Roman religions.

I can relate to the escapist urge sometimes. I usually read non fiction but I have some lite weights loaded onto the Kindle. Right now I'm reading "The Next Hundred Years" by George Friedman, about geopolitics and global economics,

but I am also reading "Priceless" by Nicole Richie (you don't know how hard it is for me to admit that).

Oh, and "Eleanor the Queen: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine" by Norah Lofts.

All three of them are really good.

I loved Much Ado About Nothing. I wrote my term paper in high school on it, lol.

If you like historical fiction, you should check out a book called The Wild Irish which is about Grace O'Malley and Queen Elizabeth.

I haven't read anything in a while :(. In part due to money and part because I am having a hard time finding a new author or book to read. I've seen a few things on trips to Barnes and Nobles but these days I have to think very very carefully about making hardcover or high cost trade paperback purchases.

And I'm languishing waiting for damn George Martin to release the next Ice and Fire series book.

I am about to start A Feast For Crows. I am a little reluctant to though because I know I will be languishing with everyone else when I finish it. I really like his books so far. Have you ever read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan?

If you're a fan of George R. R. Martin/Robert Jordan, you might might like Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" Trilogy. Sanderson has taken over the Wheel of time series now that Robert Jordan has passed away.

As for what I'm reading now, my inner geek has brought me back to the "New Jedi Order" series. I'm a huge Jaina Solo fan. She is the biggest bad*** in the Star Wars universe next to Boba fett.

Afraid not. I absolutely LOATH the vast majority of fantasy genre books.

Edit: Now that I think of it however. I HAVE read a book in the last..oh I dunno four months. I bought a copy of Let The Right One In. Absolutely LOVED it. I'm hoping to pick up Lindqvuist's short story collection that will include a follow up story with Eli and Oskar. Absolutely loved it. I haven't read a good vampire novel in a long time so I was due.

Science fiction and fantasy fans - check out CS Lewis' sci-fi trilogy - "Out of the Silent Planet, "Perelandra," and "That Hideous Strength." WOW - they are great.

Hmmm.... I may have to. His books do look pretty good. I have read the first book in the "Legacy of the Force" series. Her badassness wasn't apparent in that one. The second book looked like it was though.

I'm just not seeing it. I thought they were worse than the Chronicles of Narnia.

Well, Smoke, if you don't like the Narnia books or CS Lewis, then the odds of you liking his sci fi trilogy are pretty low.

However, I think it's safe to say that there are many people, on this forum as well as in general, who really do like CS Lewis and/or the Narnia series. They may really enjoy this trilogy, and sci fi enthusiasts may also enjoy it.

To each his own. Literature, like other forms of art, is very subjective. I thought the trilogy was EXCELLENT, and I read a pretty wide range of authors and topics - from bodice ripping novels to heavy duty non fiction.

Rereading A Wizard of Earthsea. Short but it reads like poetry. Thinking of braving up the money to buy a Poe book that has some of his stories and poems.
