I finally got Frank Peretti's new book from the library: Illusion. I like all his books, and this one, so far, so good. I am also still reading books on various religions.

I just finished reading "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. It really is a disturbing story, but wow... it is written so wonderfully. It's so difficult to put the book down despite the controversy. The author is very poetic and I love his writing style.

I am currently reading "1984" by George Orwell. I've never read it before, but a ton of people I work with say that the novel is fantastic. So, I figured I would give it a try!

I plan on getting to Nabokov soon. I heard Lolita is up there in the "one of the best pieces of fiction ever written."

I just finished The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. An excellent story about two Vonengutesque cowboy hitmen in the American west in the 1850s.

Classic. Loved it.

Been reading several classics lately. I downloaded several collections to my kindle. The Complete Works of H.G. Wells, The Complete Alice in Wonderland, The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection, Mythology Ultimate Collection; 50 Legendary Works, and a few others. I even got The Velveteen Rabbit for my children.

House of night part 3 "Chosen" by P.C and Kristin Cast. Was totally suprised to find out how many references this series makes to Wicca and neo-paganism, not that I mind though, not at all. :)

Darkness

Psychoanalyst/Marxist
The Catholic Church: A Short History by Hans Küng. The book is an overview of the Roman Curia and its ascendancy. Dr. Küng is a progressive Catholic, and takes a conciliarist/ecumenical position against the ultramontanism and supreme authority of the Curia. It does not pretend to be neutral, but rather, a critical treatise to save the Roman Catholic faith from a loyal dissident. Dr. Küng is one of the greatest 20th century theologians and his broad depth of knowledge immediately becomes apparent.

"A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. (1937-1969)

This incredibly funny novel was written in the early 1960s, but was rejected by publishers, leading to Toole's suicide at age 32. He wrote one other novel, The Neon Bible, when he was 16.

His mother can be thanked for finding a publisher for the book, published in 1980.

This book is a modern American classic (well, it deserves to be considered a classic), recounting the life of a singular eccentric in New Orleans in the early 60s.

I am amazed that I've only recently heard of it. Is it reasonably well-known or totally obscure in the States and Canada ?

I can imagine that an audio book version would be killer. Possibly even too funny for safe driving !

Can't speak about the 'well knowness' of it, but I can tell you we picked this one up in Canada.

Listening to it was AWESOME because the reader did ALL the voice,
Ah man if that wasn't just icing on the cake of a good 'read'. ;)
