I think I may device a system to roll a dice (I have a decent D&D set, except I don't have a D100) to decide what section to pick a book from, roll another decide to decide the first number (before the first decimal point), and then another dice to find a book to read. I've read so many books, but yet I haven't read so many books, it's rare for me to get into fiction, but I want a break from philosophy, or economic, or psychology, or other such books.

Just finished this: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_Steel

Recommend this for any history buffs who want a comprehensive over-view of the evolution of human societies that approaches the topic from a novel angle.

That was quite the page turner. New ideas, both well supported and well communicated. I wonder if anyone has a recommendation for a book with similar qualities.

I was trying to find a book I want to read that was actually in the library so I could read while I waited today, and after failing to think of one I want to read that was in the library I was at, I gave up with their electronic card catalog, looked up, and saw resting on the new book shelf a biography of sorts written by William Shatner about Leonard Nimoy and his friendship with him. It's made me curious to seek out Nimoy's poety, and even to try and find any videos or audio recordings of his Yiddish renditions of Shakespeare. The book is simply titled Leonard. And having read another one of Shatner's books, I have to say he is an articulate and skilled writer.

Almost finished with https://www.amazon.com/Game-Thrones-Song-Fire-Book/dp/0553386794, the first book in the series.

Then today I found the next three books: A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast of Crows for $5 each at the local used bookstore.

That's something like 3,000 pages altogether so not a bad deal.

The writing's kind of clumsy and Martin has a whole slew of annoying habits, but if you can get past that it's just like watching the series in slow motion.

Aside from some religious literature, I'm going to start The Conservative Soul: How We Lost It; How to Get It Back by Andrew Sullivan in the next few days.

God Is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens

Very persuasive arguments but, in my humble opinion, I can't get past the feeling that the complexity of the universe is no accident.

He is right about organized religion poisoning everything though.

Liquid Jade: The Story of Tea From East to West by Beatrice Hohenegger

Exactly what the title describes. Very interesting journey through the history of tea.

Currently, a few books about ISIS, It's Good to be the King (a biography about Mel Brooks), and the first book in the Myst series (and I might try getting back into the games).
