So it is said that Jesus died for our sins...
What exactly is this supposed to mean? I think its pretty obvious people have continued to sin, so it would appear to me that Jesus did nothing. The world appears no better off, thoughts?

In the Middle East, there was an ancient tradition of scapegoating in the local culture. The idea was that an animal or human could be chosen as a "sin-bearer" for a human population. The sin-bearer would then be slaughtered (literally or ritually). This would appease the relevant gods and purify the souls of the worshipers. It was a particularly powerful ritual when local human populations faced challenges and stresses. By the time of Jesus, this was a well-established ritual, and it would have made perfect sense to those living in that area in those times. It doesn't make as much sense in the modern era, because we do not have scapegoating rituals anymore.

But the tradition of sacrifice as a means of appeasing a god still lives on. In the Christian tradition, the concept of "sacrifice", however watered down, still seems to resonate with believers. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of humanity, and God showed his benevolence by accepting that sacrifice as a means of bestowing forgiveness on the human race for the transgressions against his will that might otherwise merit his wrath.

God saved Jesus from that horrible death on the cross

It all stems from the middle eastern practice of sacrificing animals to placate God, especially the Hebrew scape-goat tradition.
The Jesus-sacrifice is just an extension of this.

When Jesus said he came to fulfill the law, he meant that he was ending the old era of sacrifice. He was literally fulfilling it by his self-sacrifice. This is one interpretation (I think it's called dispensationalist.)

Jesus begged to differ, that's why He offered Himself as an atonement for sin.

The scapegoat takes the sins of the tribe upon it and is subsequently killed or "banished" I don't think Satan did this.
The Jesus myth, however, duplicates the tribal scape-goat tradition exactly, on an extended scale.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— Gal 3:13

He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. - 1 John


In His death, Jesus appeased, exhausted, absorbed the wrath of God for us. Christ died to bring us to God.

Great questions! Yes, the elect need to be redeemed through hearing the gospel and responding with saving faith in Christ. Only God knows the number of the elect of God chosen as His vessels of mercy. When is He returning? Here's a biblical response. BTW.. the Elect of God are those who are able to believe.

it doesnt appear that Jesus was a willing participant in this "sacrifice". you would think that he would be ... That is assuming he was aware of the reason behind it.
