What do atheists believe happens when you die?

How do athiests explain the 21.4 grams that are lost after death that is not accountable to water loss or gas loss, or any other observable cause.

Huh?

First I would question if this can be actually proven in a viable experiment with variables and all those other attributes that make the scientific method such a great leveler of superstitions. Then I would look for rational explanations--again, that's what science is for. what if it's just natural water loss or nothing at all except some religious person's need to juggle numbers to prove an unprovable point?

Never mind my info about 21 grams, that was just my brother trying to screw up what I was typing. I went to the bathroom and he typed it. Most of what I said was me though. 21 grams is based off of an experiment in 1906, which concluded that the human body loses 21 grams or three-quarters of an ounce at the moment of death or shortly after. It was attributed to the soul. However, only one of his six experiments were actually significant. 1 of the six lost 21 grams. Another 1 lost about a half an ounce and then another half ounce shortly after. 2 patients were disqualified for faulty equipment. The last patient lost the weight but later regained it. As you can see, clearly MacDougal was wrong about "the weight of souls".

There you go regarding the reliability of such "knowledge".

So what is the point of life? If we are all just food for the worms when we die? Why would it matter if say, I went on a killing spree. It doesnt really matter right? Life doesnt mean anything right? There is no purpose, no justice, just nothingness. What drives us or motivates us to do anything at all?

Seriously? All that keeps you from killing and going off the deep end is your fear of divine retribution? Wow, and they say religious people have morals. I guess those are conditioned on nothing but fear of punishment and not a well developed sense of right and wrong or a inate need for social justice.
No wonder some of the most amoral people cloak themseleves in a mantel of religious respectability. Worst thing is, people buy their crap wholesale.

Dates become considerably more difficult. On the plus side, balancing the budget becomes a breeze, and my weight loss plan looks promising.

Oh, and whatever memories and learnings I happen to have left with those who survive me become the main manifestation of my existence.

Back to what Helios posted. How do you get the 99 and 1 percent ratio? I see nothing to give even 1%. If I were gambling I'd need something to base that 1% percent on. In any case the only people who can answer this question are dead and the "matter" that makes up or bodies will always exist in one form or another so in that sense we are immortal. Personally I hope we aren't re-incarnated. I really don't want to go through this again. Lol!
