But not carried out in the name of atheism- maybe because of an ideology, eg Communism or Racist
If there were one religion it could be argued it wasn't just ideology. As there are 1,000 there must be a majority that is just ideology. So it's the job of theist to prove they have the right one. What disqualifies religion from being an ideology?
So it's the job of theist to prove they have the right one.
Why indeed? Why would a theist have to prove anything about their belief?
NothingWhat disqualifies religion from being an ideology?
Why indeed?
The reality is they do and atheists try to prove they are right. Otherwise, no forums would exist.
Nothing
A man with a mustache can carry out atrocities but they do not carry out atrocities on behalf of mustached people. So an atheist can just as easily carry out an atrocity in the name of something they believe in as a religious person can, no?
4,000 other ideologies. What disqualifies religion from being an ideology?
4,000 other ideologies.
Then the 100,000s of other ideologies through the ages.
I look into the charities I give to. For example, our local food bank distributes food to the needy through various other agencies. 'Soup kitchen' get a lot of it. But yes some are top end heavy. Why? They must think it does something. I feel like most charities are misappropriating funds and doing a shoddy job overall, that everything is a mess, and charity is often a total waste.
What if a non-religious person doesn't feel any reason to give their hard earned money to some "needy" people, since they have no God to answer to who cares if they waste their money on the poor or not?
Once a new ideology is created it calls into question the validity of the others.I don't think you understood the question, unless your suggesting that an ideology can make another ideology no longer an ideology.
Uh..I object mildly. This forum exists to help people communicate not to provide a means of sparring. It does allow sparring though, but if the sparring ever ends there still remains the bond of general friendship and common descent. Why indeed?

Once it gets into the 1,000s you have to agree Men create religions.
So is it just your religion that's the true one?Who is disputing that men create religion? Isn't that kind of a given?
So is it just your religion that's the true one?
A person can kill in the name of atheism. All they have to do is say "For atheism!" when they are killing. Its that simple.A man with a mustache can carry out atrocities but they do not carry out atrocities on behalf of mustached people.
So, I'm sure many atheists have carried out terrible things but not in the name of atheism.
In theory, nothing.
There is nothing a non-religious person could do that couldn't be done by a religious person.
If you turn the question round, ie What could a religious person do that a non-religious couldn't?
A couple come to mind ...
- Fly a plane into a building on purpose
- Attach abortion clinics
Religion gave us the basic "Love thy neighbour" stuff.
Non-Relion gave us science.
