What do you believe happens when we die?

YoursTrue

Faith-confidence in what we hope for (Hebrews 11)
For those believing in the Bible, and those not believing in the Bible. What do you believe happens when a person dies?

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
I know of someone who lost most of their memories to a brain tumor. I've seen a story about a person who can't form new memories.

Whatever happens the soul loses all knowledge and understanding of this life. Perhaps we return to a vegetative state, or maybe we get a blank slate in the hereafter.

No one knows nor can demonstrate an afterlife. I believe there's something else to existence. Panpsychism seems very reasonable. So perhaps life goes on even though this life tunes out forever. Qualitative existence is a mystery though self awareness is tied heavily to brain function.

It could be that the brain damage temporarily impedes memory function, and maybe memories are permanent and return after death.

I'd rather be an eternal soul with the ability to improve existence. But in ceasing to exist I'm very saddened by that. The concept of a virtuous life is worthy of an eternity of neverending love, peace, and glory.

I feel that life ends. I think that it does go on forever though. Just have to see about it, or face never knowing.

My view, according to the scriptures, is that those who are saved by Jesus Christ, though their physical body dies and remains in the grave until the resurrection, their spirit is immediately present with the Lord in heaven.

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

The spirits of the unsaved are in a holding place known as hades or hell until the final Great White Throne judgment.

Luke 16

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15

IF
People say "My body", then I am not the body
People say "My mind", then I am not the mind
People say "My emotions ", then I am not the emotions

THEN
Who Am I ?

This question needs to be answered first
Before you can answer the OP's question

I know that I don't die.
My body disintegrates, my mind is unreal
The question "what, when person dies?"
I never worry/think about

BECAUSE

I, the Eternal, is real, and Atma lives for ever

Hence

Atma, my True Self, never dies

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
For those believing in the Bible, and those not believing in the Bible. What do you believe happens when a person dies?
The atoms of which we are completely made of, will just simply disperse and rearrange into other forms.

In a manner of speaking, nobody is ever born and nobody ever dies because our fundamental makeup of who we really are will always be around.

It is probably the end when we die. But I am always open to reliable evidence. The problem is that far too few people seem to understand the concept.

EDIT: Why put this in the biblical debates part of the forum? You invited all, it really should be in the general debates area.

This is an example of why no rational mind can take the literalist interpretation of the Bible seriously. The greed for immortality sold to believers is a serious flaw in the theology. The irony is how many of these ideas are used by Christian leaders to tempt believers, and shows they totally miss the meaning of the Fall in the Genesis myth.

Our brain ceases functioning, our body decomposes.
There is such thing as soul or spirit that would survive us to our death. We simply cease to exist as a human being, like we didn't exist before our birth.
