What I love about collecting is looking for something for a long time and finally finding it. Cheap!:bounce
I almost feel guilty when I find old toys I know are worth a lot of money for a quarter or a dollar at a yard sale.Even that is getting tougher these days, vendors at flea markets research this stuff and set prices accordingly. I've given up on the flea markets now. Sometimes you can find good deals on the internet though. I have no intentions of ever selling any of my stuff unless it's an emergency, and even then it would probably kill me. Yes, I am a very material person in this sense.
Anybodies mom ever chuck their stuff while you were at college or in the military. My mom threw out my entire original star wars collection while I was in boot camp! I don't know what possessed her to do such a thing but I never pushed the issue. Now I'm wasting cash trying to get the stuff back. Moms, please don't do this to your kids!:tsk:

I collect:

1. Coins -- mostly the kind you find in your pocket change; I can't afford to be a serious collector.

2. Homies. Little plastic figures of mostly Chicano characters.

3. Dragon figures. I like them fierce-looking and made of metal, no cute dragons or resin dragons.

4. Salt and Pepper shakers.

5. G.I. Joes.

6. Books. Well, that's not really collecting. It's more of an insatiable need to acquire and read more and more books -- and once I own a book, I don't like to let it go.

My better half collects:

1. Harley-Davidson memorabilia.

2. M&Ms memorabilia.

3. Coca-Cola memorabilia.

4. Shot glasses, mostly from different tourist traps.

He'd like to collect Fiestaware, if we could afford it.

Between us, we have what most people would say is too much stuff.

And books. The blood of librarians flows in my veins. I've been told that not everyone takes all the books off their shelves, mixes them up, and puts them back again only for the joy of sorting by category and then by author.
My friends and relatives consider it one of my oddest traits that I use the Dewey Decimal System at home. Well, how else am I going to find anything?

Ooooh yes, books! That's so engrained into me that I don't even consider it to be collecting. Buying books is like buying food! I'm wall to wall books. Makes moving to new homes a pain in the behind!
When we moved last August, I announced that I wasn't moving again until we could afford to hire somebody to carry the boxes of books. Every time, I have more books, and I'm older than the time before. :help:

I collect flamingo things (yes, I even have the plastic ones in the yard and flamingo underroos) and animal bones/skulls (for artistic reference and to keep out unwanted vistors, I have a deer skull hanging on my porch under the excuse that it "needs aired out").

A friend of mine tramped through a muddy field for hours looking for a horse skull he knew was tossed there to give to me. (Never found it, though, and I am still on the hunt for one).

My husband collects Starting Lineup figures and has probably over a thousand. He also collects sports cards & vintage garden tools......

my kabar, the only knife i have of real value, is right next to my bed, where it can quickly be put to use. Its a little big to just carry around, thats why i'm getting a stiletto. I'm also getting a diamond whetstone so i can sharpen them to be like scalpels. it'll be awesome

Do you have any concept how scary this post sounds?

I've got a house full of a variety of weapons - including several rather large swords - and I see nothing wrong with collecting them at all. The thing I find scary about the post I quoted is that he seems to feel the need to keep a large knife beside the bed where it can be 'quickly put to use', and because that is a big large to lug about all the time, he plans to get something more easily concealed and sharpen it to within an inch of its life, which will apparently be 'awesome'.
Beck, how about I replace the knives with,'I keep an elephant gun beside the bed where it can be quickly put to use, but because it's a bit big to carry about all the time, I plan to get a shotgun and saw the barrel off short, so I can fit it in the inside pocket of my coat with ease, plus it'll have larger spread at short range. That'll be awesome.'
Does it disturb you now? Sorry, someone who feels the need to carry a concealed weapon says trouble waiting to happen to me.

I have a few pocket knives.
The blades are sharpened like my wood work tools and polished till I can shave with them.

The only problem is if you cut yourself, you dont feel it till later. You see the blood first.

Since we're on the subject of knives, I used to collect them, I've got quite a few stilletos, switchblades and butterfly knives, but when I had my son, that collection was soon done and they have since been locked away (aside, of course, from the one I carry on me at all times).

Anyway, since my last post in here when it was first started, it seems I, as well, have started to collect animals. Living in my humble abode, I've 5 cats and 2 dogs.

Other than that, I'm still collecting tattoos (it seems this is my fastest growing collection :D), as well as the other things I mentioned. I also tend to collect books on Music History and Musician's Biographies.

For those that were talking about sorting books, I don't sort my books, but I do sort my DVDs. And, like someone mentioned about books, every few months I get the urge to pull out all 600 or so and resort them; alphabetically, by director, by actor or by genre and subgenre (the horrors go together, but in that category, the vampire films, zombie, werewolf, etc, all go together as well). And with so many DVDs, it's QUITE a big job whenever I get the urge to resort them :help:
