I'm not looking for who has the best religion or lack of religion. I want to know what you think the best quality of your particular religion is.

Thanks.

I think the best quality of my religion is that it is pragmatic and entirely practical in the here and now.

My theology: the acknowledgement that I don't really know what I'm talking about. :D

UU: as I said in another thread, they actually "walk the talk" when it comes to welcoming everyone.

Thanks for asking, and if I haven't said it yet, welcome to the forum!

I think another interesting question would be what inspires you in other faiths outside your own?

It certainly is. Would you mind answering this one too?

hahaha I like it.

You have, but I'll take another. :D

Now if only I could get some more of those pretty frubals......;)

Nikodemus,

Although I am a secular person, I'll address Judaism as my religion in this thread (I am a non practicing Jewish person).
The quality I like about Judaism is the many opinions found in its teachings, one needs only to read parts of the Talmud to see that many sages hold different opinions, and all are respected in the discourse.

as for your interest in what I find inspiring in other faiths, my answer will be that I find inspiration in Sufi poetry, although a non mainstream part of the Islamic world, and in many ways universal than Islamic alone.
I am interested by the strong emphasize in Sikhism of a non-anthropomorphic God, and stressing that being a contributing part of the community is what is important, and not mindless rituals.
In Buddhism, I like the fact that Zen stresses the importance of direct experience over the study of religious texts.

Also as an off topic question, is your nick related to the New Testament Pharisee who favored Jesus? and was mentioned in 3 different places in the NT?

The best quality about Patrickism is that it is un-follow-able. What this essentially entails is that no one can perform a sin or an atrocity in the name of my religion or bring reproach and criticism to me or the relationship between the GOD that I have had words with.

Never will I have to defend the wrongdoings of another just to preserve my name.

Never will I have to hide or hold secrets about someone to give the appearance that I have the true religion.

Never will my background or past misunderstandings resurface to paint or promote an unfavorable light to my current relationship with God.

There are not that many religions that can make that claim.

What a strange coincidence. That's my favorite thing about Patrickism, too. That's why I just joined up to follow it from now on. :D

Thank you for answering my question.

As for my nick, it is somewhat related to it. I chose Nikodemus for a variety of reasons. I chose the original Greek spelling because it means "victory for the people" which is something I relate to. As for the relationship to the Nicodemus of the NT, I do like that he visited Jesus by night to get the word. Seems like he was the kind of guy to go straight to the source. I like that.

I think the best quality of my religion is its scientific approach. I love the fact that its embraces rationality. I cannot think of more intellectual yet spiritual reading than Vedanta and Samkhya-Yoga, I think this is the main reason why I am a part of it. Also I love its very colourful and cosmic nature. The values it teaches are truly very noble and spiritual, in fact they emanate a divine purity. I almost feel as if this religion is being practiced throughout the universe by every advanded civilisation.

I love the fact we humans have the capacity to express ideas of Deity with such amazing depth and diversity. But as far as my personal beliefs go: I was raised Catholic, which has its strength in rock-solid traditions and underlying mystical beliefs, including the sacred feminine, as well as a supreme love for splendor and ceremony---Ya, theres alot to be said for the Catholic Mass, it lost so much when they stopped saying it in Latin.

But also, i am at heart a mystic, and I believe that God is for everyone, regardless of whether they've followed one ritual or another. That makes me a heretic in the catholic faith, but oh well. Im in great company! :angel2:

I think the best quality of any religion is that it makes you feel fufilled and happy inside and that you are happy with your religion and you truthfully beleive it.
