The Roman Catholic Church certainly has many outstanding attributes.
It is probably the largest religious denomination on the planet.
As an organisation it recognises the Divinity of Christ and the authenticity of the Gospels.
I accept the primacy of Peter as the first Pope.
The wheels began to fall off after the Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and the compromises that were necessary with the establishment of the Nicene Creed.
The Catholic/Protestant schism wasn’t the first for Christianity and the Catholic Church was certainly to blame in part.
I like the progress that has been made with the second Vatican Council that’s enabled constructive dialogue with peoples of other faiths. However it doesn’t go far enough in recognising the Divine origins of other world religions.
Having a male dominated clergy and priesthood looks seriously dated. The handling of the sexual abuse perpetrated by many of its priests has been poor.
