What do you need scientific evidence for . .?

The real question is why is it okay to hold something as being true without having evidence of it? Why is belief self-justifying with regards to religion, but not self-justifying when it comes to, say, politics?

That's easy. Because with religion, the only (ideally, anyway) being affected is yourself, whereas with politics, an entire nation is being affected.

Are you saying people's religious beliefs or a group's religious beliefs have no affect or input whatsoever on a global scale?

What difference does that make? What is you believe is "ideal" for religion doesn't change the fact that religion has a huge global impact.

We will probably need to move into another area (this is hardly Evolutionism vs Creationism), but I think a good argument can be made that the impact is due to improper bleeding through into politics. Also, stating an ideal creates a duty to pursue it.
