I need a little help with figuring out what religion or path is for me.

I believe in a higher power, not sure if there's a God or not. I believe in the afterlife. A paradise, I guess, but not a hell. Though I do think the wicked should be reprimanded. If that makes any sense at all.

I believe in striving for peace and unity, to bring equality and justice to the world, but not by praying to some God to make it all happen, but by actually being the change.

I want there to be a place for LGBTQ persons in your suggestions if possible.

If you have anything to suggest, I'd love to hear it.

Sounds like UU or mainline Protestant churches like the United Methodist Church or United Church of Christ would be a choice to consider.

Here's what I suggest:

- Unitarian Universalism

- United Church of Christ

- Liberal, Universalist, or non-theistic Quakerism

- Reform or Reconstructionist Judaism

- Perhaps some form of Mahayana Buddhism? Zen and Pure Land come to mind. Although, unless the Sangha is really westernized, there may be some uncomfortableness with LGBT topics.

Moralistic therapeutic deism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  1. A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.
  2. God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.
  3. The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.
  4. God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.
  5. Good people go to heaven when they die.

I second StarryNightshade's opinions. Sikhism is a possibility, too.

Niiice. This isn't too far from my own beliefs. I don't know how I should feel about that... :D

Hermaphrodite is current, Shemale is accurate and intersex is a slur
for it does not recognize hermaphrodite as a distinct viable gender btw.

Wrong.

Historically, the term hermaphrodite has also been used to describe ambiguous genitalia and gonadal mosaicism in individuals of gonochoristic species, especially human beings. The word intersex has come into preferred usage for humans, since the word hermaphrodite is considered to be misleading and stigmatizing,[3] as well as "scientifically specious and clinically problematic".[4]

And "shemale" is a slur. As a trans person, I request that you stop using it.

If Texas is your permanent location I'd start with UCC. Then UU.

If you want unity you need to study the actual world.
If you want peace you need to accept the actual world.

Unity you already have. Everything is eternally interconnected regardless of conflict.
Peace is an internal experience projected by your point of view and mindset. But to end all conflict would be to end all information and essences would no longer be capable of coherence.

However I think you're probably just saying you want the world to be a better place. Well you already stated you want to be the change you want to see, or whatever that Gandhi quote is. So you already know what you need to do. You don't need a religion for that. Religion is for people that don't know whats best for them or for those who choose not to (or can't) study the actual world.

If you spend a few years questioning what makes expression and interpretation of information possible, eventually you'll realize the truth of why and how everything is. It's actually written in everything, but we're easily blind to see or understand it. (it ain't no gods) The short answer is "a trifold synthesis of paradox", but that's not going to mean anything right away.

Hi NoraSariah,

Sounds like you should try to walk 'The Straight Path'. Here are some of its basic principles:

-The straight path is the path of virtue and righteous action.
-Virtue strengthens the mind and the body.
-Mental and physical conditioning disciplines the mind and the body. Discipline helps the mind and the body to seek virtue and reject vice.
-Vice is sin because it weakens the mind and the body.
-We sin against ourselves, not God.
-By strengthening ourselves we strengthen humanity.
-The straight path is the purpose of the soul, the mind and the body. Only by walking the straight path do we enter Heaven.

Look deep within your heart. You will find your answers there. Sit quietly, and just search within. God dwells within all of his creation. Saint Paul once spoke about how everyone is a temple of God. Where did the ancients believe a deity resided? A temple! Everyone is the residing place of God!

As a Christian, I'll tell you, Don't go to a church first then try knowing yourself, because if they church teaches false doctrine you will be influenced by it. First search within for love, truth, knowledge, and wisdom. Always question, but never doubt because through questioning comes understanding, but through doubting comes misconceptions.

Once you find truth, then go to find a church because you'll know if it is a church that teaches truths, or falsehoods.

Also, if it is possible, try to find a knowledgeable teacher who knows truth. I would recommend a hermit/monk, they are not afraid to speak the truths that normal church members would not understand.

I could teach you some things if you want? Just write me a private message if you are interested. I can teach you, or I can try and find a monk/hermit if you would like.

-God bless and have a great day.

Buddhism and philosophical Taoism come to mind. By philosophical I mean the Taoism that is described in Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching; the religious aspect of Taoism comes after Lao Tzu and is largely a mixture of Chinese shamanism and Taoist beliefs. That being said Hua Hu Ching is an optional read, it's the oral teachings of Lao Tzu passed down over generations so it's definitely changed here and there as it came down the line.

Nontheless definitely look into other sects of Taoism (magical, alchemical, ect.) if they interest you. Regardless of what you decide, Tao Te Ching is definitely a great read.

I also agree that some main line protestant and UU churches might be a good thing to look into.

Shinto, Jinja Shinto, also shares similar beliefs to you however there's more of a stronger belief in divinity, purity, and rituals. Hence why I'm recommending it last, it doesn't seem to match up with everything you said but its worth the mention.

Hope this could help, good luck on your search!! Sometimes the answer is more obvious than you think.
