What do I think? I will be approaching 70, if I am alive. I will be making around 40,000$ per year; and that will just about cover cost of living here.
There will be a lot more robots. We will see some multi purpose robots come into use. They will not be affordable for most people, but they will handle multiple tasks around the house from cooking to cleaning to lawn care. Robots will pick all of the fruit for large farms. Farms will experiment with growing two or more crops on the same plot, because the machines will be so good at harvesting that it won't be a problem. Robots today are poorly designed. They are machined and typically rely upon servos and small motors. That may change, or it may lead to high prices and exclusivity. Countries will begin to station robots on our boarders, and they will be the first lines of defense and offense.
There will be tech that interfaces with our smell receptors. This will be the 'New' 3D movie: movies with smell. You will be able to smell pretty flowers as you walk past sewage. It will be used extensively in therapy or experimented with in therapy.
Long before 2040 public will urge the government to crack down on insecure computer networks, resulting in large recalls of appliances and also some very odd legislation that isn't very effective and which is hotly contested.
The Smithsonian museum will be set aflame by an arsonist but will not burn down. The arsonist will be caught.
Many liars will make prophecies about the future, and some of them will come true. Some will not.
