That's ingrained through culture. So I guess culture is another thing that separates us from the other animals.

However, I believe that humans are enlightened with a keen ability to use reason and (as a result) carry the responsibility to take care of eachother and the earth.

One main difference is we have a lot more noise going on in our heads and worry about frivolous things. Our instincts end up making us confused instead of helping us. Ironically our niche has allowed us to survive even while being less capable.
