What does an honest Atheist do in court ?

Engyo

Prince of Dorkness!
Sorry guys -

They don't make you swear on a Bible, and they don't make you swear "so help me God" in Texas courts, anyway.

In the UK you may choose whether you swear an oath on the bible or take what I think is called a 'civil oath'. This means that you just say "I promise to tell the truth".

You're quite right; wow, we are more Bible bashing than the Americans!!!!!:cover:

I believe though that the requirenment to swear an oath is restricted to County courtrooms, as opposed to Magistrate's courts.

this is a really good question! I don't mind manger scenes at Christmass. They are kinb of cute if not pitiful. I don't mind seeing "God" our our debased coinage. But I cannot imagine myself swearing on a Bible! I look in the damned thing frequently enough to verify items I get, but to swear an oath on it, I cannot imagine myself doing it. However, who knows how compelled i might be....

In any case, what i imagine would be that I would request to swear on my honor as a human being. I would have my lawyer make a big issue of that.

Same for me.

It's about time US courts are changing from the old ways. And, my Youth and Government trip is finally this weekend. :)
