What does the Cross mean to you?

A idea only a like thread. They do not relate. (Italics not related to point)

What does the Cross mean to you?

Ex-Christians if the Cross meant something to you when you identified as Christian, how did you see it then not now?

Ex-Christians if the Cross still means something to you today, what does it mean?

Christians-main stream denominations: What does the Cross mean to you now?

Christians who do not use the cross: What does the literal and physical worship of his passion mean to you?

Anyone who believes in a Creator: Does the cross, whether abstract or not, mean anything to you (regardless if it is not important)?

If the cross doesn't mean anything to you, you have a negative view of it, or you're the exclusion, please answer respectively and productively. I honestly want to know what the cross means to people as given Christianity is a huge influence and maybe there are some perspectives of it (little or big, abstract or concrete, etc) that you have in regards to the cross
For me, the Cross mainly symbolizes:

- the injustice of atonement
- a symbol some Christians use when they're trying to violate the principles of secularism.
- edit: also, a marker to help the cause of tribalism, by helping Christians identify other Christians.

I'm actually just gonna throw this out there: when it comes to the Christian Cross, I actually don't associate it with the image of crucifixion, but of the Christo Redeemer. A standing dude in a dress with outstretched arms trying to give the world a big fat hug.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
When I was a Christian the cross symbolized redemption through Jesus Christ. I was proud and wore it like a badge of honor with a real sense of fraternity. It had an "alive" quality about it. For all practible proposes, it pretty much served as a talisman.

Now the cross serves solely as a reminder of my former religion, but no longer has any religious significance or the kind of "sway" it once had over me.

Thank you. Likewise. :)

That would be a much better image actually.

The Christian cross is a torture device used for crucifixion that became a Christian symbol for Jesus. To me, the cross symbolises Christianity, order, and conformity. On the other hand, the inverted cross (which was not originally a Satanic symbol) represents deviation from traditional Christianity; following the left hand path. The inverted cross is more meaningful and relevant to me.

For me, it is a symbol of cruelty and torture. Moreover, because I do not believe that Jesus was crucified, it is a reminder of how Christians, and all who believe he was crucified, have gone astray.

Thank you. That's a different way of looking at it, seeing it as how Christians have gone astray.

The christian cross is the execution method.

Simple crosses may mean a lot of things.

It represents the second Exodus, not from physical slavery in Egypt but from sin.
I think the cross also represents the love of God and 'the strong arm of God' being bared in the sight of the nations as said in Isaiah 53.
It is many facetted

Self-sacrificial love
Perseverance through adversity
Hope
The union of Heaven and Earth, God and Man
The nearness of God
That God knows suffering through having experienced it as a human being
Spiritual protection (when blessed as a sacramental, which pretty much all of my Christian medals are)

So many things.

I think of the two similar Psalms 15 and 24

In 15 'who can ascend the mount of the Lord' and lists many characteristics best fitting Jesus perfect life
In 24 'who can ascend the mount of the Lord' and also mentions 'he shall receive blessings and righteousness' which fits the believer receiving grace because of Jesus
