Well, all teasing aside I'm sure you're right. I just don't see it. So much for my years and years of art study huh?

You've got to be like me...no years of art study...an active imagination...and an absent husband for the night! :p

What of the fella with a sword in his gut right above the couple?

Or the angel (for lack of a better term) to the left of the sword in gut fella?

Or the the horse in the grass to the left of the kissing couple?

Hahaa! Well, out of those three choices I do have the active imagination....too much actually.

Looks like someone on the other side of the kissing couple does not like the idea of them kissing.
I suspect an angry father getting ready to club the young man romancing his daughter.

Maybe he's trying to get them to elope so he won't have to pay for the wedding, but he's angry because their loitering under the tree rather than running away to the next county to get married.

I saw that othre person too...yeah, she's looking out over the valley, paying no attention to the couple. But, I did not get anger or anything negative from her...just indifference to the couple.
I mean the one holding the club in a 'ready to attack' position.
HHHmmmm
the more I look at it the more it appears that he is looking to hit the one sitting on the other side of the tree from the couple with their back against the tree.

What I find the most interesting is that the longer i look at that picture, the more things that jump out at me.

Wow PolyRev, that's dark. *shiver* :p

Nope, I still see Springtime and blossoms. Actually, I now think that the girl in red on the other side of the tree is day-dreaming and the kissing couple is her day-dream...

Some artwork speaks to you. (I'm really digging Paul's.)

I adore the abstract. However, this picture shouts "Abstract wanna be" to me.

I appreciate the blues and greens of the landscape and mountains but there's something lacking. It's almost "stiff". That's the word that comes to mind...stiff.

3. I don't see anything--are you on drugs? *just kidding*
4. Wow--the girl in your kissing couple is blond!
5. Horse.

Actually, if I blur my eyes and look at it like a 3_D picture the tree turns into a big skull and cross-bones. Yikes. No wonder I thought it was spooky at first!

Okay, following your example...

1. One of those crabmeat rangoon things
2. A pawn from a chess game
3. Chicken leg
4. Someone with a beret, holding a book, struggling to put on their yellow rain jacket
5. Looks like one of those really big cats...like those tall Egyptian looking cats...if you look upward to the right a little...you can see a cat looking head.

But this is all...a stretch...

The tree looks menacing--it has the face of a jack-o-lantern, or the look of a skull. It also has a large claw to the left, which when looked at with one's head tilted slightly to the side, also looks like your typical Hollywood witch. The couple kissing under the tree also looks like a woman putting on her coat, with a small child in front. To the right, and a little to the back, it looks as though there's a fire. Also, the little tree in the foreground looks like a bird, while the orange beside it looks like it could be a squirrel, or even a cat prancing along. To the left, the white looks like a person or wild animal running or pouncing, while the mountains in the background have the sad-looking face of an elderly man or woman. The more I look at the picture, the more I see.

General feeling is of neurotic & dissassociative tension. The angles are obviously wild but its the colours too. There is definately a lack of comfort and...also a lack of affectionate feelings I get from this. If I knew the artist personally their own feelings about the picture would affect my impression of them.
