Just read this article today, was wondering how Westerners would react if say China or some other country started genetically engineering their populations and creating superior human beings?

It depends on the purpose of the alteration. If you're altering the DNA to remove a propensity toward developing cancer, for example, then that can be positive.

Gattaca is one of me all time favorite movies.
I must...must I tell you....watch it every now & then.

I think it is an inevitable consequence of Darwinian theory. If it helps a species survive it will be implemented. Like drugs in sport, you might slow it down but you wont stop it.
