I'll pitch another idea. Yahoo disabled the comments section on their news articles until after the American election and I'm wondering if such a strong fisted approach would work for RF's political sections.

A lot of the members are interested in political subjects. I don't think it would be wise to simply take the ability to talk about said subjects away from them instead of employing other methods to mitigate the heat that political debates sometimes produce.

I think it's a good idea

Personally, I come here to primarily discuss religion, not politics

What about members who come here in equal parts to discuss both subjects or those who are more interested in politics? How do you view this idea given that the forum has many such members?

Is that a good idea? Why or why not?

First thought, maybe put politics as a DIR only. One can see it in the new threads list but can choose to reply by being part of that DIR. That, I think it's kind of like site feedback, if I'm not mistaken. Don't you see the title in new threads but can't click on it because of its location or is it just listed on those who made the site feedback thread?

I picked "other," depending on whether it's something that could be made optional.

I also suggest that if it's a DIR, the conversations within it-the debates-may be a bit more flexible than a public debate area only because the flare-ups would not be biased in one direction.

I don't think implementing the measures in question would get in the way of people discussing politics if that's what they really want to do

What would be the point of removing the political threads? What would it accomplish?

The threads are popular. We'd loose half our members if we became just another religious chat room. If I wanted to hear people preaching at me I'd listen to a religious radio station.

I enjoy the diversity of subjects here. Those who want to discuss religion can discuss religion. those who like physics or biology or politics can discuss these. That's why RF is more active than more focused talkboards.

Why are people coming to a religious forum to discuss primarily politics anyway?

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
If it was made a new button on the menu bar, where it said "Political RF discussion only" and when you click on that menu, all the political topics that you want is there, and removed from religioues discussion part of RF.

Maybe that seperation could work?
