I had a thought last night (i know, but it does happen sometimes). Not sure if anyone else has suggested it.

Like the DIRs when they need to be selected how about a section, a list with tick boxes opting in to (or our of) a subject,

:heavycheck: Religion
:heavycheck: Science
.... Politics
:heavycheck: Humour
...

This doesn't affect what is listed in New Threads though...

Is it really that hard to just ignore the threads about subject you don't want to engage in? Do we really need to arrange all these separate 'hidey-holes' to help people further ignore anything and anyone they don't agree with? I mean, isn't that really all these DIR threads are about?

I am indeed in favour of maintaining the status quo.

Which way to the woods?
My thinking on this is if the overall goal is to reduce atheists from joining or participating in this forum, by adding more hoops to be involved or pushed to the back of the closet, it is a good idea.

Most atheists are heavily involved in politics because they understand it is the only way to induce change of the injustices. We don't find ignoring the actual situations as something we can just pray about and hope God will do his best to fix it. Or just focusing on our beliefs is beneficial.

Many of us are also interested in understanding belief and how it relates to our family and friends and are curious about finding more clues as to the "why" of religious or spiritual beliefs.

I also know many people of faith who are heavily involved in change through civic participation.

So I believe, it would be detrimental and not helpful for traffic to the site, if politics is hidden for either religious or non religions participants.

Another idea for slowing the change in the new threads list from changing so quickly might be to limit the number of new threads which can be created by the same person in one week. To me, that would better slow the rate of the new threads list without showing favoritism to the religious who have no interest in changing the world through actual participation in politics.

Terrible idea.
Anyone who cannot stomach political threads should avoid them.
I want notification of new threads. I'm not alone.
How to avoid problems?
Prohibit making it about the poster instead of the issues.
