No I'm not sure non-theist means atheist. We say Buddha was a non-theist, but he spoke about the devas, and believed they existed, but was agnostic as to their natures or rather they needed worship.

Buddha was an atheist. People say non-theist because of the negative tone attributed to atheist.

Yes, but when most people say atheist in modern society they mean they believe no gods exist. If a "non-theist" believes gods exist, but say virtually nothing about their natures, and choose not to worship them, how do we separate the two? One believes in deities and one does not.

No, atheist in modern society means a lack of belief in god(s) (which also includes those who believe no gods exist)
A nontheist would not believe in god. If someone believes in god, says nothing about their nature, doesn't worship it, they are a theist. Theist means believe in god. If they believe in god they are a theist.

Its pretty simple guy.

Atheism and nontheism are literally the same thing.

In popular usage, some people refer to atheism as meaning something more specific, but the popular use of the term is not necessarily the correct one in terms of language. Atheism can be implicit or explicit, and agnosticism and atheism are not mutually exclusive descriptions because one of them refers to knowledge and one of them refers to belief in gods.
Is priceless and worthless the same thing? ;)

Violet.
I understand men to be gods.

I do not "believe" they exist,
because I clearly SEE that they exist.

Theist? or Non-Theist.

(ie, do I "believe in" god/s, or not?)

Someone that doesn't claim to be a theist, but they know they are, they just don't want to admit it.

theist.

If you believe god is an ant, and that an ant exists, theist

I agree with you actually,
but there have been numerous times on the forum
that atheists have deemed my "god concept/s"
to be invalid "god concept/s",
as if to say that my concepts of god,
are not... acceptable, or "actual".... concepts of god at all.
(but merely a re'naming of something else)

Some people like to insist
that in order to 'believe in' god,
you MUST 'believe in' something you cannot see.
(something you cannot prove to exist)

Some Theists define the UniVerse itSelf as gOd.
A Non-Theist would not define the UniVerse,
or the things/people in it as god.
Sometimes theism has more to do with Definition,
than "belief" proper.

The explanations I've read describe notheism as being beyond atheism or agnosticism, one simply dosen't care if there is a creator God or not. It makes about as much sense as weak/strong atheism/agnosticism, Christian Atheism, etc.

i consider myself an atheist despite having a god-like-concept because i don't feel it is a god. I believe a god has to be a being, with consciousness, and basically super-powers. Which i don't believe any exist, thus atheist while still having a spiritual connection to the rest of the universe.
