It's when someone just makes a random post in a thread in order to bump that thread up on the newest post list thingy so that more people will see it and respond to it.

Bumping the thread up in the "Active Topics" listings. Often done by the originator. Many people use the Active Topics tool to see what has been posted recently, and a topic which has been dormant for a couple of days won't be noticed by anyone using this tool.

A bump is simply a post that is done to push a topic back up to the back to the top of the topic list. Many people will just put the words bump in such a post, but it could be more than that.

The term 'Bump' is a form of internet slang used to denote an otherwise useless and empty post employed solely to refresh interest and awareness in a particular and long forgotten topic or previous post. This works by the automatic forum command whereby every new post in a thread causes that topic to rise up to the top of the active forum page.

Oh, and since this is in the Debates section, I vehemently disagree! ;)

In a given thread, the word "grind" is used when somebody has abused the "bump" privilege.

Oh, I wasn't talking about bumping more than once in a topic. I was saying that a bump could have more in the post than 'bump'.
