What is important to Jesus doing what he said or what He never said?

Jesus is King & Mighty God Isa.9:6-7; Lk.1:32-33
Do we do exactly what Jesus says or does he want us to change it a little?

My view is that there are so many different bibles and so many thousands of interpretations of those bibles, with no original text to compare that it is impossible to even know

You are very right I agree, so I asked myself a while ago.. What is the same not changed in every Bible in every language? Matthew 28:19-20
instead of trying to interpret what it says just do exactly what Jesus says.. "teach all the nations to observe all my commands".

My preference would be to figure out what works best to meet each of our specific needs and preferences that will work best in the modern society in which we live in today.

The question then becomes what are his commands. There is a lot of teaching in the New Testament. Some of it seems to be intended literally, some of it via parables or metaphor, some of it clearly hyperbolic and some of it apparently at variance with other teaching. As far as I can recall, the only teachings clearly stated as commandments seem to be those famous ones about first loving the Lord your God and secondly loving your neighbour as yourself.

So I think it is unavoidable that one has to interpret the teaching to get at the spirit of it rather than just following a form of words which can in any case vary from one translation to another.

Lk 8:21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” NIV.
Matt.7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. NIV.

I have nothing against any person who believes in Jesus In fact I love this person, why? Because Jesus made a new commandment to love one another and talks about the love of a neighbor and even to love our enemy, He says this so many times.. To me it doesn't matter which scriptures a person favors, I think in time Jesus love for us will affect us in such a positive way we will want to listen to Jesus more..

Mark 10 17:
a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’

I like what jesus said.

you?

A man asked directly how to earn life and jesus was succinct.

FOLLOW THE FRICKEN rules.

Jn.10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. NIV. Jesus uses words like listen, follow, put into practice, you are right he does not say do exactly.

Keeping the commandments are enough to appease both the god(s,s,s) and civil society. Rituals and submission to a religious authority, is not the choice that should be made.

Jesus said:
Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
John 8:31-32

If the goal is to be a disciple of Jesus, a "Christian", then remain in what Jesus said and don't change it.

I don't think Jesus would have us to change it at all. There are matters that are not addressed in the Bible . I believe we should seek to honor God in everything.

We should do exactly what Jesus said. His most important 'commands' or injunctions are in Matthew 25: 31-46:
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me....Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

To us, now, Jesus is a character in a story written by ordinary men and intended to express their understanding of divine truth. So we don't really know what the actual divine truth is. We only have what these men thought it to be as expressed through the story of the life, death, and resurrection of this character named Jesus.

Understanding this, I think we would be foolish to just blindly presume these words to be some sort of divine, unquestionable, command. As we would be foolish to take ANY words written by ANY men to be a divine, unquestionable, command. We should fully and whole-heartedly question any such commands. From anyone.
