What is man that you make so much of him?

The Devil's Advocate
Psalm 8: 4-5
What is man that you make so much of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
For you made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.

Job 7: 17-19
What is man that you make so much of him,
that you give him so much attention,
that you examine him every morning
and test him every moment?
Will you never look away from me,
or let me alone even long enough to swallow my spittle?

I don't really have anything to debate, actually. I just find the contrast between these to be fascinating. :)

What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals—and yet,
to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me—
nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so.

Wow, thanks for digging up this old post, lol. In looking at the two verses again, I think they are tied to each other. Because we are exalted we are also scrutinized.

"Of those to whom much has been given much is expected."

I think Job is being tested while he says this and he is in pain and wants to be left alone while the psalm is a joyous melody from king David going on to express love.
