Rām is Lord Rāma, Sri Rāmachandra. Hindi tends to drop short 'a' in certain places. Rāma becomes Rām; rāga becomes rāg; devanāgarī becomes devnāgarī.

Gandhi is (apocryphally) said to have said "Hey Rām!" ("O God!") when he was shot.

Coincidence that you mention that as I was reading about it yesterday. Some say Gandhi might have said "Ram Rahim" :)

It reminds me of this song:

Some call the Lord ' Ram, Ram ', and some ' Khuda ' - Sikh, Hindu, Sufi, Islam, etc - YouTube

Sorry for the digression, however I think you have answered the OP. :)

I love that Gurbani! One of our Hare Krishna bands, Gaura Vani and As Kindred Spirits, sang that very Gurbani when we have our Kirtan Vancouver 2010 event. It was a beautiful song to me! :)

Glad you liked it too, Gaura Priya :)
I have not found another one like it, with the same universal embrace and style. I would have liked to hear it live.
