What is Resurrection of the dead?

I wonder if Jesus will return to his old body during his second coming.
But i agree with Aup. Anything is possible for the Lord.

There is no reason to think that Jesus is not in His resurrection body now, which is His old body but now immortal etc.
Jesus of course is both God and man and so He is in that body as well as spiritually filling the whole universe.
Eph 4:9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)

What exactly is Resurrection of the dead before the day of Judgement?

Is it a physical raising of the dead bodies from their earthly graves?

Or is it an etherial raising, like the soul or astral body raised from deep slumber at the time of judgement?

I'm a little confused because i came across an article which says it is an etherial raising and not a physical one.
Then there are other articles which says its actually a physical raising of all flesh bodies from their earthly graves.

Does this mean different christian denominations have different interpretations of it? o_O

It might be like those old zombie movies from the 1960s. . . they seek brains. That is why I try to learn as little as possible (keeps me safe from brain eating zombies).

That could be true also
Though, as you mentioned "everyone can google at that time if it happens"

I agree, that it can be meant figuratively. It won't be the first one in the Bible. And it could mean different things too. Many layers of understanding and interpretation

Maybe "dead" means "not experiencing the Spiritual world", only being focused on the material world

Or maybe not being focused on the material world, but only being focused on the spiritual world.

The book "Major Barbara" about a Salvation Army major who believed in helping the poor with charity, vs. Undershaft (a wealthy arms manufacturer who offered good jobs, and therefore had a town with little poverty). One did only good, but had bad results, the other didn't mind killing some, but many lived well.

One focused on the spirit, while the other focused on the material (yet the results were the opposite of what most would expect).

There is no reason to believe that the resurrection body is the same as the old body.

Any theology will have differences.

One thing for sure is that in the Christian theology you should not really conflate the resurrection of Jesus and the resurrection of others.

Which of those two are you referring to?

I find it is good to keep in mind Jesus' illustration about the weed/tares and the wheat.
The 'weed/tares' are the fake Christians, and the 'wheat' are the genuine Christians.
Also, Jesus forewarned us that MANY would come in his name but prove false - Matthew 7:21-23.
In the Bible we find two (2) Judgement Days:
First, we are nearing the judgement day (time period) at Jesus' coming Glory Time, the 'time of separation ' on Earth.
This judgement time is for the living figurative humble 'sheep ' and haughty ' goats ' as found at Matthew 25:31-34,37.
Second, there is a first or earlier resurrection for the dead as found at Revelation 20:6; 2:10; 5:9-10.
This heavenly resurrection is for people like those of Luke 22:28-30, those called as saints or holy ones - Daniel 7:18.
The physical resurrection takes place during Jesus' Millennium-Long Day of governing over Earth for a thousand years.
This is why the future tense is used at Acts of the Apostles 24:15 that there 'is going to be' a resurrection.......
ALL who died before Jesus died were Not offered a heavenly resurrection but earthly - Hebrews 11:13,39.
This physical earthly resurrection even includes people like King David - Acts of the Apostles 2:34.

There is no reason to believe that the resurrection body is the same as the old body.
Good point ^above^ because all who Jesus' resurrected where resurrected physically healthy.
For that matter, all the Bible resurrections before Jesus died were being brought back to healthy physical life.
We can think of people who drowned/buried at sea (no remains) and people blown away by bombs (no remains).
So, yes, Scripturally there is No reason to believe a resurrection is the same old physical body.
And No reason for those resurrected to 'heavenly spirit life' would need a physical body but a spirit body like Jesus.

Some deny the resurrection. The Bible is very clear that it will be a thing.

When did Jesus ditch His body? I can’t find a reference for that event.

When did Jesus ditch His body?.........

Try John 20:14 because at the tomb the woman did Not recognize the resurrected Jesus.
At John 20:15 she thought Jesus was the gardener.
It was Not until Jesus spoke to her that she recognized the resurrected Jesus at John 20:16-17
A physical body does Not appear in shut rooms as resurrected Jesus did at John 20:19; John 20:26
There is also the famous on the 7-mile road to Emmaus account found at Luke 24:13-43.
At first his followers did No recognize the resurrected (before ascending to heaven) Jesus at Luke 24:16-18.
Verse 31 (John 24:31) is interesting because after their 'eyes' were opened, so to speak, Jesus vanished.....
A physical body does Not vanish and appear in door-closed rooms.
in other words, when God resurrected dead Jesus then Jesus was resurrected back to his pre-human spirit body.

And yet he does show up with a body in a locked room.

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

He eats, can be touched and can hop in and out of rooms.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply because I see I failed to mention Jesus used different materialized bodies.
A physical body can't appear in a locked room, but Jesus appeared twice in a locked shut-up room.
It was one or some of Jesus' materialized bodies that ate and drank.
Plus, I'm thinking of 1 Corinthians 15:50
If Jesus was resurrected flesh and blood then Jesus could Not inherit the kingdom.

A resurrected body is different in some core ways from a moral one. I read a bit on this years back (sorry I forget who wrote it). They stated something along the lines of reassured bodies not having blood.

So with resurrection to a perfect body it does not have the weaknesses so typical of the bodies we have now.
Kind of along the lines of Philip 3:
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Jesus was a corresponding ransom for Adam ( flesh and blood ) Adam was to keep his blood forever.
Flesh and blood ( notice the word 'flesh' ) at 1 Corinthians 15:50 because it says 'flesh' can Not inherit the kingdom.
It would seem odd for a physical body not to have flesh.
Plus, remember Genesis 9:4 lets us know our blood is our lifeblood. (can't live without it) Leviticus 17:11,14.
I find Philippians 3:20-21 is Not addressing the ' sheep ' the ' great crowd' ( Revelation 7:9,14 ).
Chapter 3 is addressing 'Jesus' brothers' ( 'spiritual brothers' of Matthew 25:40 ) and Not the ' sheep'.
Only 'saints/holy ones' are resurrected to heaven as Jesus was - people like those of Luke 22:28-30; Daniel 7:18.
The majority of mankind can have a flesh and blood aka physical resurrection like the people Jesus resurrected.
- John 3:13 includes all the people listed in Hebrews chapter 11 because they died before Jesus died.
ALL four chapters of Philippians are addressed to the saints/holy ones and Not Christians in general.- Philippians1:1

1. The average Christian was called a Saint throughout the NT. Catholics and a few others like to have ranks and positions separating people, but in the Bible the people follow wrong Christ are saints.

2. Mark 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err. Also Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
There is some popular cultural notions of not having a body, but the Bible teaches that we will have one.

Was there an un-average Christian in the NT______ ( just kidding )
The people Jesus went to were given the first opportunity to govern or rule with him - Revelation 5:9-10
After the Jews the Samaritans were given the opportunity.
Then, lastly the people of the Gentile nations were called to be Christians with a heavenly hope or earthly.
ALL have bodies. Some will be resurrected with a spirit body - 1 Corinthians 15:50.
The majority of mankind resurrected with a physical body like Job 14:13-15.
Including the prophet Daniel 12:13 who will once again stand up right here on Earth.
