Good Religions
1) Influences
2) Have activities to do
3) Has at least one central book Has updated and standard guidelines to be a good person
4) People follow because they want to
5) Teach others philosophy and morality
6) Central figure is dead

Mack, mack, lemme ask you a question here.
I'm sure you think I'm a good person, and I'm sure that by that you don't think my religion is bad, but these standards would suggest otherwise. Paganism as a whole has very little influence when you look at the big picture, and we have no standard guidelines that unify us or command us to act a certain way. Also, we have no central figure. Our only figures are gods, and for those that don't believe in gods, their only figure would be nature or the spirit of the universe. My religion therefore violates three of your qualifications for a good religion. I'm only mentioning this to potentially challenge your definition of a good religion. I would argue that a good religion requires things you don't include, an that a good religion can lack some of the things you do include. Just my thoughts on it.

Let's see if the teachings of Jesus meet the ^ above ^ criterion about teaching peace and bringing unity

Jesus did Not advocate war or violence - Matthew 26:52
Jesus said his genuine followers would have self-sacrificing love among themselves - John 13:34-35
Jesus, as Prince of Peace, will usher in global Peace on Earth among men of goodwill - Isaiah 11:3-4 - bringing the wicked to their end - Psalms 92:7
Under his coming rulership - Psalms 72:8; Psalms 72:12-14 - there will be good conditions on earth - Isaiah 11:7-9
Even the desserts will blossom like flowers - Isaiah 35
There will be healing for earth's nations - Revelation 22:2
We're all invited to pray the invitation for Jesus to come and usher in global Peace on Earth among men of goodwill - Revelation 22:20 B.
Please you need to read this " But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Mathew 15:24

The discussion is about the best religion. In fact all religions were basically and originally good. Therefore when human race reached the level of maturity to receive a universal saviour and universal book, God sent a universal saviour and universal book and that is what Islam is. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks

1. We do not believe in Different Gods, infact there is only one God but all religions or set of teachings come from the same God.
2. This thread is to educate people about Religion. You need to understand the nature of religion or standard set of teachings. Religion also had to go through an evolutionary process and we have different religions because there have been many different prophets for certain areas and certain peoples. All of them were sent to the world or were appointed by the same God. Basically all taught the same concept of one God but as time passed and due to human interference in divine scriptures such as Bible and Vedas etc, they lost their original teaching and concept.
And what of the polytheistic religions? The nature-based, the ancestor-honoring, and the animistic ones? And what of the atheistic religions? How do you account for these if there is only one god that all religions are based around? As as for your second point, you claim every religion has prophets sent from the same god, but what about all those many many religions without a prophet? Many within the categories I mentioned have no prophets. How would you account for all of these faiths?

When i say all religions, i mean all major religions with Sacred Books and Prophets. Any religion of course has to start somewhere so that starting point of course has to be a figure ( called prophet ).
Hinduism and Christianity are the examples of polytheistic religions.
Also an individual or individual beliefs are no standard to follow and therefore he or she cannot be a standard. The Standards have to come from Holy Scriptures with reference. Thanks

The simple fact is that there is no "best religion." Everyone has their own path to follow. For every individual there is a "best religion," but by no means is there one that could possibly, or should, unite all of humanity. Everyone has their own unique spiritual needs that only their path can fulfill, whatever that may be. Saying that there should only be one universal religion ignores those unique needs and claiming that there is a "best religion" diminishes them.

A good number of indigenous religions started tribally. These have no single starter, but a large group developing their faith as a collective.
Hinduism and Christianity are the examples of polytheistic religions.
Christianity is not polytheistic. They only believe in a single god.
The Standards have to come from Holy Scriptures with reference.
Standards do not have to come from religious texts. The majority of religions have no holy texts.

OK why do you follow certain universal teachings then?
1. Why do you believe Truth is a good thing and everybody should exercise it?
2. Why do you believe Honesty is a good thing and everybody should exercise it?
3. Why do you believe equality is a good thing and everybody should exercise it?
4. Why do you believe Justice is a good thing and everybody should exercise it?
Every body should have their own moral values according to your belief?

1. Truth is... well, true. Most people don't want to practice something they know is false, and for those who do, good for them?
2. I believe honesty is good because it is one essential part of a functioning society. If everyone went around lying to eachother it would be pretty hard to get things done.
3. I believe in equality, not everyone does, and this is why we're still battling over LGBT rights.
4. Justice is another essential part of a functioning society. If no justice was served, things like murder would go unpunished. I'm certain this would result in most of us being dead by now.

I don't see what this has to do with the topic though. These are more or less universal teachings because it is in human nature to believe in these types of things. That has nothing to do with religion, nothing to do with rules, it's just how the human mind works. These things have been practiced since the dawn of mankind, before religion, before laws, before dogma and religious texts. Without many of these things we would never have formed societal bonds and would have died out long ago. Nobody enforced these things, they happened naturally to keep us alive and have nothing to do with religion or the points I was previously making.

And what do you base this Arrogant point of view from? I mean for all we know "The One True Religion" could have died off a long time ago? Why would it die off? Maybe it's all part of some plan we pathetic humans cannot comprehend.

I follow Norse because I feel something from it. Not because I accept what I am bombarded with from my Nation's culture. I think for myself.

No, we do not believe in Different Gods, there has to be on God and one universal scripture to follow. It is your own idea. Do not base your ideas on baseless thoughts.

I find it a little patronising that you assume my disagreeement means I don't understand. I understand what you are saying. But I just don't believe it. I feel no particular urge to become a Muslim, in particular not an Ahmadi Muslim, although I have studied Islam in depth.

I don't think it makes sense for there to be one universal saviour or one universal holy text. If a religion is true, or a worldview is true, then it can be expected to be confirmed from multiple sources.

Actually you are in error. Christianity is not polytheistic, just majority-trinitarian. Not all Christians are trinitarian.

I am a Hindu. I am not a polytheist. There are Hindus who are nondualist, monotheist, polytheist, atheist, panentheist etc.

Also Hinduism, being an umbrella term, has no founder. Among the many many traditions and religions within Hinduism, some have founders, some do not. Some have texts, some do not.

According to your law everyone can have his own ways. So one can practice justice and other one can exercise injustice.
So one can practice Honesty and other one can exercise Dishonesty.
So one can practice truth and other one can exercise lies.
So one can practice evil and other one can exercise good.
Where did this concept come from that the evils should not be practised?
Why do you need all to speak truth since half can tell lies? according your law.

Just so you're aware, I'm going to quote one of the Forum Rules:

8. Preaching/Proselytizing
Creating (or linking to) content intended to convert/recruit others to your religion, spirituality, sect/denomination, or lack thereof is not permitted. Similarly, attempting to convert others away from their religion, spiritual convictions, or sect/denomination will also be considered a form of preaching. Stating opinions as a definitive matter of fact (i.e., without "I believe/feel/think" language, and/or without references) may be moderated as preaching.

The full rules are available here.

While we're at it, let's turn it around and as the OP a question: @Hadayatullah Hubsch - why do you think Islam is best? What do you see as being insufficient in Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity?

Were you raised Muslim? If you had been raised as a Buddhist, a Hindu or a Christian, might you have a different view?

Thanks for accepting what i said. Part of Hindusim or half whatever, do not have one God. You have also accepted the same fact about Christianity. So that was my point.

I didn't accept what you said. Some Hindus have one God, others have many, others have none. I didn't accept that Christianity doesn't have one God - in fact, Christianity is monotheistic. I seem to have conveyed the opposite meaning to what I intended! :p It's cool, you can always ask me to clarify if I haven't been clear.

Ah - your namesake :)
