What is the purpose of life? Why were we put on earth?

That's simply true. Religious people argue all the time that if you take god away, then life becomes meaningless, and I disagree.

That's not looking down on anyone, that's calling it like it I see it.

Did I say "of course those foolish religious people..." or anything of the sort? No. If you believe I was implying it, well, whatever, there's probably not much chance you'll believe me anyway if I deny it.

Well to take a stance here I dont believe he was trying to look down on anyone. He called it like HE saw it. That makes it his own personal opinion that was NOT intended to sway you to think or believe in what he does. In my experience, The religious, especially the Christians, have had a rather...violent history of destroying or condemning those who dont believe as they do.Many atheists do the same I agree. Religion gives man a purpose through its Gods...Atheism and other non-faith dogmas rely on themselves for purpose. And If the religious look to someone else for purpose then they create their own purpose because the CHOOSE to FOLLOW that ideal meaning they have made their own purpose...:) everyone wins cuz they all get a purpose...IF they need one.

My present understanding is that individualized unit of conscious stream of energy we normally call a soul acquires knowledge through experience of the body and ego mind combined, in this life time.

Greetings! :)

What is the purpose of life? Why were we put on earth?

According to the Baha'i scriptures, we have two purposes here:

  • as individuals, to acquire the spritual virtues we'll need both here and in the Next Life, and
  • in aggregate, to carry forward an ever-advancing civilization!

Best! :)

My purpose in this particular life is to understand how my thoughts, beliefs and expectations form the reality I experience. The rest is gravy.
