What is to be made of Howard Camping?

Is Harold Camping of Family a Prophet or a heretic? He says that the world is ending May 21, 2011. He has said that this has been revealed to him from the Bible. He applies prophesies that speak of the Temple as thogh they refer to churches. He says the CHURCH AGE is over. So what do you think. Is he another Smith? Why do you think he is right or wrong?

LittleNipper,
We don't have to guess about what Howard Camping is. The Holy Scriptures give us a definitive answer.
Jesus said that he did not know the day or the hour, so it is very unlikely that God told Camping the day, Matt 24:36.
Luke 21:8 also tells us not to go after anyone who says the time has approached.
Actually showing that Jesus is not going to come visibly, Jesus said, If anyone says, Look here is the Christ, ot He is THERE, do not believe it. If Jesus was coming visibly, SOMETIME, that statement would be true.
We are told just how God looks at people who make prophecies, IN HIS NAME, that did not come from him, Deut 18:20-22. Christians are not under the Mosaic Law Covenant, so we do not carry out this command, but it is good evidence as to God's thinking on the matter.
If we really want to know about the end times, all we have to do is read chapters, Matt 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, and 2Tim 3:1-5, 2Pet 3:3-7.
Even though there is two meanings to the word Prophecy, One it means something new that God gave a prophet to declare to the people, in His name. The other is to tell about things that are written in His Bible, that few are aware of, especially in the times the peophecies are coming true. Either application, Camping is wrong, because his prophecies did not come true and will not in the future.

well i guess he was wrong on the date, and if he really knew his bible or believed it, he would know that it says that no man knows the day or hour, only the Father, not even the Son (the Lord Jesus), but at least some of his followers cared enough about warning people of the coming judgement. The church age will be over when the last gentile receives Christ, and the rapture comes. Then the tribulation, and then the glorious appearing at the end of that .

Could you explain what you mean by that?

I can, unless he never comes back.

Some Chrisitans believe that at some point "the time of the Gentiles will be over," meaning that Gentiles can no longer convert to Christianity. The holy spirit will be withdrawn from earth, critical to the conversion process.

Wonder what he would say to the fact the to the Jews, Christians are the gentiles?

Gentiles are the christians and all other faiths---"to the Jew first and then to the gentiles_" Jews can not be called gentiles!! Camping has been proven to be a false prophet years ago--this is not his first end time dateing. He has earned a whale of a lot of money with his balogny--no matter what is proven to be false, people still think he is a man of God--but only to people who don't know their bible and don't seem to want to read for themselves and are in need of someone to tell them what to think.
