I have nothing against murdering, rioting arsonists. But them Jaywalkers tho. Never trusted those riff raff.

What the hell is jaywalking? Is it just walking in the street when the lights are red?

Certain people might individually or collectively perceive these things as "wrong" but it's all subjective. Some cultures would hail a "murderer" as a hero, or revere the sensation of taking human life as a sacred act.

Impose a death penalty on it.

Hey, I didn't say it was a problem. The death penalty was last used in the UK in 1964, although it theoretically remained in force for treason up until 1998. In recent years, we have first reached a place where the majority of the population oppose the death penalty.

Slackers and jaywalkers...Back in the day the British Empire would make people walk the plank for less.

You think? I dunno about the penal codes of the British Empire. The UK is a modern state with a pretty decent human rights record, at least internally.

Hi Folks...

Kirran; Yer that it is now - but it has not always been this way....Throughout my life I have had numerous run ins with UK authority - police especially - and I can tell you directly that at one time our police out on the street had no concern at all for human rights....In all honesty I will tell you it only changed because of surveilance technology makes it impossible for them to get away now, with things they once did every single day...

When i was a teenager especially though - the old bill would literally give you a beating it the street before taking you to a station....First time arrested in the street age just 13 - took a beating off 3 adult coppers for runing away - kicks and punches...They would target individuals who they knew to be active criminals yet had no evidence, and they would simply intimidate them openly threaten and abuse them...We were a gang of car thieves - and although that is wholly wrong i NOW know - but it did not give the local police any rights to treat us or ANYONE that way - yet they did - time after time after time...Daily even, they would stop me and my mates - even without any cause at all - and simply - slap us about - as a warning - or as retribution if we had escaped them before....They were worse thugs than any of us were....

I did a Youth Detention centre twice and a Borstal later as I grew - both institutions had abysmal human rights records - so bad actually that they eventually closed that regime altogether shortly agter i did my time, as that was the height of the scandal and far FAR too many young offendors were committing suicide whilst under their so called care.....GO FIGURE - I will tell you directly the officers there were MANDATED to intimidate, dominate and physically abuse us inmates, and thus deter you from any further rule breaking....Detention centre was hailed indeed as the "short sharp shock" designed specifically to ABUSE the inmates.....I was sentanced 6 months first time - that meant I seved 3 months back then - and WEEKLY - I saw kids either beaten, hospitalised by guards or took their own life as they simply could no longer cope with the situation - and yes WEEKLY this happened and seemed to be part and parcel OF that whole regime..

Fear and intimidation were the GOVERNMENTS weapon against its own citizens - torture and repeated abuse became common in such places...Go see the film "Scum" - probably on You tube somewhere - a very VERY accurate portrayal....Anyone who went through that system will tell you for sure the UK has a very poor human rights agenda - or did have at least WHEN they could still get away with it..

Human rights here - we are very good at appearing to be squeeky clean - but look closely Folks...things such as Saville and the now football scandal will show us what truth is what regarding UK "justice and human rights" - not always what is apparant at the surface I assure you....

Certainly, we have corruption, cover-ups and crime rings like anywhere else. Hopefully we can keep hacking away at it and improve things over time.
