What is wrong with the UK?

In the UK, it is against the law to burn a Qur'an, and, yes, people have actually been arrested for it. Source: BIBLE BURNING LEGAL / NOT QURAN However, burning the Bible is completely legal. Why are the leaders of the UK in bed with Islam, giving the Qur'an special protection, but not the Bible? Let me be clear, I believe that it should be perfectly legal to burn any book, including all religious books. So, why does the UK restrict freedom of speech by making Qur'an burning an arrestable offense?

In addition, the UK recently banned individuals critical of Islam from entering the country, yet they still allow SHARIA COURTS to exist in the nation, and allow Muslim men to preach about abusing women in mosques. I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but when I learn about stuff like this, I suddenly become happy that he is our president instead of some leftist who loves Islam and hates free speech. Bear in mind, not all leftists think this way. Richard Dawkins, Bill Maher, and Sam Harris among others are examples of leftists who have common sense on this issue. Unfortunately, as is evident in the United Kingdom, many do not have common sense, and clearly do not care about the overall welfare of their citizens.

Oh, that's an easy one, it's because one doesn't want to provoke members of the religion of peace just in case it causes a homicidal rampage in response. Christians might sniff indignantly at the prospect of a Bible being burned, but we can pretty well surmise what the Muslim response to a crispy Qur'an will be. Heck, just the mention of burning a Qur'an is enough to get the juices flowing.

I suspect they are afraid of being labeled racist. It being about the worst derogatory thing a person can be labeled.

Kind of silly since Islam is not a race, but somehow that connection has been made. So it's ok to be a atheist and burn the Bible. It's not ok to be a racist and burn the Quran.

I'm not really against religion, as long as folks keep it to themselves but isn't the basis of the Abrahamic religions that one day their religion/God will take over? So if Islam becomes the national religion of the UK, wouldn't all Muslims see it as inevitable being that it's God's will?

Of course that's obviously the reason. I'd love to see the irrational mental gymnastics the lefties will go through to try to argue otherwise. :tearsofjoy:

I think burning any book should be legal in a society that values free speech. Laws against burning the Quran or depicting Mohammed are a step backwards for the dignity of a liberal secular society.

That said, anyone that does so (burning the Quran) is exposing innocent citizens (not just themselves) to greater dangers from suicide bombers and terrorist events.

I say make it legal and hope nobody does these things publicly.

To people from Muslim countries that came to the UK and now support this anti-burning law, I would like to ask why you freely chose to relocate to a country that allows freedom of speech (including the burning of any book you want to burn)?

Not too much good can come from hitting a bee hive with a stick. But I do think Draw Mohammed Day should be an international holiday. With countless drawings coming from, every source possible the attacks on innocent cartoonists should end.

I'm going to need a much better source for your claim that it's illegal to burn a Qur'an but not a Bible. And the 3 you mention aren't exactly leftists. Harris, for example, sounds just like a neocon.

Political correctness...double-stardards... it's the norm where I live in America as well

My views align close to theirs, so guess that makes me a neocon then, at least by your definition.

This reminds me of that preacher down in Florida who burned all those Qurans. I think he was charged with violating fire safety rules, but there was no actual law against burning the Quran.

I will admit that burning books does seem a bit off.

I remember when they burned Cat Stevens' albums. They burned Beatles' albums because John Lennon said that the "Beatles were bigger than Jesus Christ."

Then there are people who want to burn flags.

Political activism through pyromania. Bunch of firebugs.

Still, my view is, as long as they paid for it, they can burn it. And, naturally, they should follow all fire safety regulations.

And speaking of record albums which should be burned, I offer this:

The site contains links to the stories from sources which lean politically left not right. Heck the Guardian is one of those outlets that will cry Islamophobia the first chance it gets.

I don't understand allowing Sharia courts either. Totally ridiculous, but just shows how we have to jump through hoops so often so as not to cause offence. I can't stand any form of blasphemy laws either but I understand the offence it can cause to many. Their problem though for expecting such beliefs to be above criticism - or even ridicule.

Please note that the linked articles all say "ARRESTED" how many of those went on to be successful prosecutions? (I don't know the answer)
But it is possible that it is the police overreacting - as is their want, rather than the judicial system.
I am not aware of a UK law that bans burning of the Qur'an but not the Bible, IIRC the law is something like "Inciting religious hatred" and again, as i have said, that is down to the police who they arrest.

Sharia courts are allowed in the same way that (say) my fishing club can have disciplinary committees. My club can ban/fine/suspend members for breaking rules.

Sharia courts have no legal standing in the UK what so ever.
However any religion or organisation can impose is own rules for its members. Though they are only enforceable by consent.

There is no law that bans the burning of any book.
However any action that is likely to result in the breach of the peace is a police matter and might result in an arrest.
Burning a Koran outsid a mosque after friday prayers would most likely cause a breach of the peace.
Though done at home, in private, would not be any sort of offence.

Which individuals and why?

yet they still allow SHARIA COURTS to exist in the nation,
There's nothing illegal about private sharia courts. Everyone is still protected by the rights and laws of the actual courts.

and allow Muslim men to preach about abusing women in mosques.
Same as with any other religion.

I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but when I learn about stuff like this, I suddenly become happy that he is our president instead of some leftist who loves Islam and hates free speech.
Because that's not a childish and ridiculous characterization.

And that's not just an opinion, it's an opinion based entirely on very little information and a heck of a lot of emotion, so you know it's right!
